Katherine | 12 comments I've posted an article on caregiving at Women.com. If you're a caregiver, or know of anyone who might find it helpful, please share. The link is http://www.women.com/there-is-life-af....

It's about my experience as caregiver for my elderly parents, which I wrote about in my memoir, The Box of Daughter: Overcoming a Legacy of Emotional Abuse

Hey all!

My debut novel, HONEYMOON WITH HARRY, is now available on Amazon.com in kindle and paper versions. The movie rights to the book were bought when it was in galleys by New Line Cinema, Paul Haggis (CRASH) did the film adaptation and Bradley Cooper is interested in starring.

It's the hate/hate relationship between Todd and his never-to-be-father-in-law, Harry, as they travel together to the island Todd was to honeymoon with Harry's daughter to spread her ashes after she's killed days before the wedding. The anger and pain that devours these two men leads to touching and often hilarious results as these enemies must help each other survive the death of the woman they both loved. Honeymoon With Harry by Bart Baker

I hope you enjoy it! Thanks so much!

Originally published separately in print form, The Golden Web ~ Three Magic Women are at last together as a Kindle book.

Haven't been around much lately due to kindling, so to celebrate completing this particular project, I've made the ebook free until the 21st May.
The Golden Web ~ Three Magic Women by Nell Grey

As a child, Ellie heard the spirits speak and possessed a mystical connection to the earth, and an instinctive feeling for its magic and that of the gods and goddesses of our ancestors. But a single act of bloodless sacrifice, performed by the dim light of the new moon, alienates her parents and alters the course of her life.

The Golden Web and Three Magic Women are together the story of Ellie’s long quest to find some unbroken thread of belief from ancient times, a people with whom she feels at one, and to come to terms with the consequences of the practice of the Art Magick and the implications of the Witches’ Law: An’ it harm none, Do what ye will.

Here's the Amazon US link.

And one for Amazon UK.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments Join a desperate professor in his search for a literary artifact. A new short story by Tim Black, brought to you by Untreed Reads.

The Importance of Being Ernest by Tim Black The Importance of Being Ernest by Tim Black

Hemingway scholars have long postulated on the whereabouts of Hadley’s valise, a satchel containing several of Hemingway’s early manuscripts. Yes, his first wife lost the valise on her way to join Papa in Pamplona for a little bull dodging, but did she lose it or was it stolen? Pilfered by someone who had a grudge against young Ernest Hemingway?

In The Importance of Being Ernest, an untenured literature professor, facing the peril of “publish or perish,” travels from Key West to Paris in pursuit of Hadley’s valise, only to discover the bastard child of a Left Bank literary legend as well as the answer to the question: what happened to Hadley’s valise?

About Author Tim Black:

Tim Black is a multi-published author of numerous short stories and magazine articles. In 2011, Untreed Reads published the memoir of Tim’s daughter Taylor entitled Daydreams & Diaries. 2011 also brought forth the satirical short Doxology, also from Untreed Reads.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments Beth Mathison’s Young at Heart romantic short story series continues to enchant readers around the world. We’re happy to announce two new entries in the series.

About The Young at Heart Series:

Frannie and David Young have been married over twenty years, have two kids, busy jobs, a house in the suburbs and a dog named Max. To keep the romance alive in their relationship, they plan a “date” twice a month. Their block of time together includes very few rules—no kids or dogs, but requires an open mind. Frannie and David take turns planning dates, depending on the NFL’s schedule and how the planets are aligned that particular month.

French Romance Cooking Class by Beth Mathison French Romance Cooking Class by Beth Mathison:

In this second short story in the series, Frannie chooses a hands-on French cooking class as their outing. As they struggle with the “right” way to spice up their lives (both in and out of the kitchen), they discover that their strength as a couple depends on their ability to “wing it.” They also discover that “winging it” with raw oysters, a bottle of wine and an eccentric French cook can make for one interesting date.

A Mission to the Mustard Museum by Beth Mathison:

In the third short story of the series, Frannie and David visit the Mustard Museum where they encounter life-sized bottles of condiments, Louisiana hot sauce, and crowds of elderly tourists. Fearing their relationship has lost its “zing” as they head towards being Empty Nesters, they reaffirm their passion for each other, Mustard Museum style.

Beth Mathison Beth joined Untreed Reads with her humorous Thanksgiving story A Mobster's Guide to Cranberry Sauce. The story became such a hit that an entire short story line grew around the characters through most of the holidays in 2011. Summer 2012 will bring a return of these oddballs in A Mobster’s Independence Day Picnic.

How to Purchase the Young at Heart Series:

All stories in this series are $0.99 from The Untreed Reads Store. When you purchase from our store, you receive five of the most popular formats all for the same price: EPUB (compatible with Nook and most other readers), HTML, MOBI (for Kindle devices), PDB (for Palm Reader) and PDF.

You’ll also find the titles at virtually every ebook retailer around the world including Amazon, B&N, Apple, Kobo, WHSmith and Waterstone’s.

Lois | 2 comments I'm delighted to tell you about my new novel THE SECRETS OF MARY BOWSER, just published by HarperCollins/William Morrow.

Synopsis: Thanks to the film Glory, the contributions that black soldiers made during the Civil War have become well known. Now, a new novel, The Secrets of Mary Bowser, based on a true story offers insights into the amazing, long-forgotten role one black woman played in the war that ended a slavery—a role that took her into the very heart of the Confederacy.

I was working on my Ph.D. in African American literature when I first learned about Mary Bowser’s real-life achievements. Born into slavery, but freed by the daughter of the family that owned her, Bowser was sent North to be educated. But she made the daring choice to return to Virginia, where she pretended to be a slave in the Confederate White House so she could spy on Jefferson Davis, passing what she learned to the Union Army. To craft Bowser’s story, I drew on my wide knowledge of slave narratives and literature by free blacks, while also undertaking extensive new research on the Civil War. The result is a novel that dazzles readers as it explores friendship, family, courage--and the ultimate cost of freedom.

I never thought I'd write a spy novel, or a Civil War novel, until this story captivated me. So even if you don't think you're a spy novel or Civil War novel reader, you can still fall in love with this book.

You can learn more about the novel, watch a trailer, and read an excerpt and reviews at www.thesecretsofmarybowser.com And please check out what other goodreads members are saying about it: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

Ben Portus (BenPortus) | 2 comments The Last Ark by Ben Portus

Kidnap. Betrayal. A secret past and a lethal virus. Who do you trust when everything you know is a lie ... and the entire planet's at stake?

Sammy Twice is a normal kid - that's what adults always tell him. Until his mum gets abducted in the dead of night. Then everything changes forever. Because Sammy has a hidden past. His home, his parents, even the person he is ... they're all a lie.

And who is The Professor? Why is he stealing animals? What is The Ark? Sammy needs to find out fast. The countdown has already started. The flood is coming, and it will destroy everything on Earth.

Here's a taste of what's inside. To see the video trailer and read the first two chapters for free, visit the author's website at www.benportus.com

"The gap between his feet and the fence around the lion enclosure was at least a metre wide. The drop was the height of five men. In the darkness, curving rolls of barbed wire shimmered along the top of the fence, each razor prong waiting to snag and incise.

Sammy took a deep breath. He lifted his chin. Rain poured over his face, running into his eyes, blurring his vision.

He blinked.

Lightning split the sky ahead. The air fizzed and a billion drops were frozen like diamonds in the wintry sky. In the distance a sudden macabre silhouette: his mother, clinging crucifix-like to the wire, three lions reaching up with great sharp claws to drag her down.

Darkness. The thunder cracked like an explosion.

He jumped."

Here are some of the reviews The Last Ark has received on Amazon:

"5* Gripped from the first page to the last
1 Jun 2012 By StaceyHedge

I settled down to read this, not really knowing what to expect. I was hooked after the prologue, let alone the first chapter. I couldn't wait for the next time I could read this to find out what was happening - so many twists, turns and shocks that I feel breathless even thinking about it. I very quickly forgot that this was written for young adults, as I was so swept up in the characters and plot. It is also really thoroughly researched and oozes authority and conviction - such a fantastic debut!"

"5 out of 5 stars - Highly recommended

8 May 2012 By Capt Jim Ltd

The Last Ark is a brilliant read. I simply couldn't put it down. An action packed adventure with a twist in the tail that made me gasp aloud. Ideal for teenagers from 9 to 90! Can't wait for the next Sammy Twice adventure - this story begs a sequel."
