message 1456: by Beth (new)

Beth Hi everyone,
I want to let you know about my new release coming at the beginning of May, Wicked Eddies, the second book in my RM Outdoor Adventures mystery series.

Here's the blurb:
Fly fishing is dangerous? River ranger Mandy Tanner had no idea until days before a huge tournament in Salida, Colorado. True, the Arkansas River can be a man-eater, but the rapids weren’t responsible for driving a hatchet into the neck of would-be competitor Howie Abbott―a secretive man who may have been cheating. While casting about for suspects, Mandy seeks clues from Abbott’s family members, including her best friend, bartender Cynthia Abbott. But when Cynthia becomes the prime suspect, Mandy realizes she’s wading into deeper, more hazardous waters than ever.

I hope you'll add it to your to-read lists! Also, my Goodreads Giveaway for a copy of Wicked Eddies started today! Enter here:

Jennifer Petkus (jenniferpetkus) | 8 comments My Particular Friend (A Charlotte House Affair Book 1) by Jennifer Petkus

Jane Austen meets Sherlock Holmes: Miss Charlotte House will not admit impediments to marriage, not even when those impediments include scandal, blackmail and even a duel to the death. With the help of her particular friend Miss Jane Woodsen, she deduces all that happens in Bath—both good and ill—and together they ensure that true love’s course runs smooth, even though both friends have suffered tragedies that prevent their own happiness. These six affairs, set in Bath, England, during the Napoleonic War, are inspired by the creations of both Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Jane Austen.

Available at Amazon as a paperback and for the Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005UF4Z6U

Amy Shojai (amyshojai) | 22 comments I've completely updated (with SQUEE! new cover) my book. The title has slightly changed, too--so not sure how to get it to link the new version here in GoodReads (yes, I'm a clueless newbie).

I've greatly updated this book, changed the book cover and title to better reflect the content--ComPETability: Solving Behavior Problems In Your Cat-Dog Household. Currently it's only available on Kindle.

How-to prescriptive advice has been added with step by step info on dealing with aggression, potty concerns (dogs eating from litter box Ew!), mealtime, emotional health and introductions.

I know most folks prefer dog-only or cat-only books so I've split the topics into different books. Two more in the series will address cat-to-cat and dog-to-dog behavior problems. Here's wishing you a truly peace-able pet kingdom!

Edward Jamieson (edwardjamieson) | 20 comments What Women Think About

This is one of the most important questions in the world. The answer to it is unknown not only to men but also to women themselves. What do women think about? What does a woman want to get from the world and from men? What does she strive for? This is a question the answer to which man has tried to get for centuries, as women themselves don’t know it. Try to ask them: “What do you think about, what do you want?” First a woman will think a bit as she doesn’t know the answer either. Then she will pile you with her desires, which we have always known, simply haven’t ever concentrated on.
Yes, the answer is quite simple. Men know it but they have never tried to think it over. It’s very easy to hear it but it’s hard to carry out. Their thoughts are accessible to us, men, we always hear them but try to ignore.
Now let’s speak about what women think about. First, I would like to mention that they think about what they want. Yes, this is what a woman thinks about most of the day, how to get the desired things. There are a lot of means to obtain them, but the main thing is to obtain them with the help of men. This book gives examples and situations of women’s mentality and desires. Most of the readers might have come across such situations; lots of women will recognize themselves while reading the book.
By means of quite simple situations you will get the idea of what women usually think about and if men are able to make their women happy knowing their thoughts; because on the whole men are eager to clarify this question, as they do want to make their women happier.

eBooks are electronic editions of books. They are files designed to be read on either a Kindle, a Nook, or an iPad. the file extension is .mobi (for a Kindle) or .epub (for a Nook or iPad). The nice thing of reading on a tablet is that you can jump easily through the chapters, you can click any chapter name in the table of content to go directly to the beginning of that chapter, and you can search for an expression with the click of a button. The iPad has some additional sleek features, for example when you 'turn a page', there is an animation of the page rolling over to the other side, so the feel is amazingly real!

In my case, I have no publisher to deal with, so I am entirely free to set the price of my ebook Apart From Love on all three devices. I set it to $2.99 across the board, and now also here on Goodreads.

I think that in your case, the publisher may be interested to have your book participate in the Kindle Select program?

Hi Mary, as Rick said an Ebook is an electronic book. Kindle (from amazon) and Nook (from barnes and noble) are to examples of "readers."

Not all Ebooks are free. The publishers typically decide on the price and may offer "free" as a promotion. Some distributors (as with Kindle) allow you to change the price within certain ranges--and if the author is also the publisher, you can experiment to find what price best suits (and sells) your book. Amazon-Kindle has a program that the publisher (you as self-published author or your publisher...iUniverse?) can sign up for a Ebook lending program, too. There are many ways to go depending on the publishing platform, publisher, author, and book. Hope something here helps. *s*

Train Station Bride by Holly Bush

1887 Debutante, Julia Crawford endures a lifetime of subtle ridicule as the plump, silly daughter of a premiere Boston family. Julia strikes out on her own to gain independence, traveling to the Midwest to marry an aging shopkeeper and care for his mother. Julia finds her new home rough and uncivilized after the sophistication of a big city, while closely held secrets threaten to ruin Julia’s one chance at love.

Jake Shelling was sixteen and grew up quick when his parents died from influenza on the North Dakota prairie. Left with a half-cleared farm and two young sisters, he spent little time on his own needs . . till now. At thirty-five, he figured it was high time to have some sons and a mail order bride would suit him just fine. No expectations of love, just a helpmate from sturdy stock, ready for farm life.

Untreed Reads (untreedreads) | 36 comments Nominated for the PEN/Hemingway award, Water Dancer is now available for the first time in ebook format. Out now through Untreed Reads.

Water Dancer by Jenifer Levin Water Dancer by Jenifer Levin

Water Dancer tells the story of Dorey Thomas, a marathon swimmer training to cross the cold, brutal waters of the San Antonio Strait. It is a feat no other athlete has ever achieved. This swim will be her return to life after suffering a nervous breakdown. Her trainer, Sarge Olssen, faces an old enemy; for the San Antonio Strait took the life of his only son. Since then he and his wife, Ilana, have lived in isolation, torn from the world and from each other. Dorey’s year of training brings the passions of these three to the surface, becoming not only a test of physical endurance for Dorey but a test of the spirit for them all: a road to healing and redemption, and a rebirth of the ability to love. Swirling at the core of this mythical journey is water itself, the mysterious element of sustenance, destruction, transformation.

“Water Dancer is a hard, rewarding book; about much more than swimming. This is a book I want my sons and daughters to read. The love felt and described is inspiring. It transcends the physical, sensual, sexual to the spiritual, the psychic. It touches on the essential quality of love, and takes us into depths and through currents almost unendurable, to new insights, new beaches.” – William Wharton, author of Birdy

“A Sargasso Sea of brilliant and startling images…Levin’s prose dazzles.” – Los Angeles Herald Examiner

“An extraordinary first novel.” – The Village Voice

Jenifer Levin Jenifer Levin is known for her novels Water Dancer (nominated for the PEN/Hemingway Award), Snow, Shimoni’s Lover, The Sea of Light (nominated for the Lambda Literary Award in Fiction), and her short story collection Love and Death, & Other Disasters. Her essays and short fiction are widely anthologized. She has also contributed feature articles to the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Rolling Stone, among others. One of the first openly gay authors to be published in the mainstream press, the Washington Post named her part of the “lesbian literati”.

Levin graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Comparative Literature, subsequently studying Medical Anthropology and South Asian history. She traveled widely in Europe and Southeast Asia, lived and worked in Israel, and studied Tibetan Buddhism for 10 years. A former competitive swimmer, she has coached women’s running and weight-training and completed several marathons.

Levin has two sons whom she adopted as toddlers from Cambodia. Her essays about Cambodia—a country devastated by war, poverty, and genocide—before and after the intervention of the United Nations, and her experiences adopting and raising special needs children, have appeared in several anthologies.

She and her family live in New York City.
