Leonce Gaiter (goodreadsleonceg) | 2 comments I can't say how heartened (and proud) I am that so many who discovered my novel, "I Dreamt I Was in Heaven - The Rampage of the Rufus Buck Gang," through the Goodreads giveaway program have found it a 4-star, gripping read despite their usual avoidance of the titular "genre." This is set at the end of the old west, but I hoped to take it far beyond the western genre stereotypes, and judging from the comments to date, I believe I may have succeeded! Whew!

Mathieu Gallant (Entropiated) | 19 comments Hey James Mason Community Book Club followers! Haven't been around in a bit (how is it that since last Christmas the day only seems to be 20 hours long?). I have some promising news to share. I've gotten some positive feedback from a local publisher, so my debut novel "Outage" might be picked up. I still have some hoops to jump through, but it's still much better than an out-and-out no. I'll post again when I learn more. Take care everyone!

Eileen Thornton (eileenthornton) | 52 comments The Trojan Project was first published in the UK in 2008 by Austin & Macauley. However, since I have regained the full rights, it has since been picked up by a publisher in the USA - Moongypsy Press. The novel has been re-edited for the American market and has a brand new cover. More details on the date of the release when I have them. Meanwhile, I have set up a page on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Tro... I have also set up a Website www.the-trojan-project.webs.com

Marion Sipe (MarySipe) | 10 comments I just put out a short story collection called All Claws: Stories of the Urban Werewolf!

All Claws Stories of the Urban Werewolf by Marion Sipe

A collection of three stories featuring urban werewolves: Best Friends (Flash), in which Matthew's best friend Jake has outstayed his welcome, at least Riley the Golden Retriever thinks so; Innocent Until Proven (Flash) in which, sick of jury duty, Amanda thinks she's looking forward to closing arguments, on a full moon; and Skinless (9,000 words) in which Albert's night out on the hunt turns into a scramble for his life which could leave him... Er, as the title implies.

Fourteen year old Angelina Freyer, born in Africa, growing up on a Kenyan farm, close friend of the Masai and Swahili, knows the bush like the back of her hand.

When she, along with twelve international tourists are stranded in the back of beyond after their plane crashes and goes missing for two weeks, nobody but Angelina knows how to stay alive or effect a self-rescue.

But some of the adults dissent, ridiculing her and arguing that she's not old enough to know what she's doing.

Her aunt, Maudie Freyer, Johannesburg financial executive, who invited Angelina on the ill-fated charter flight, backs her up, warning the dissenters not to make trouble.

The situation deteriorates when Ira Illingworth, London architect, sly, easy living philanderer, steals a cache of uncut diamonds being smuggled from the Botswana diamond fields to Lusaka.

The gang of smugglers, armed and ruthless, hunt the tourists down, forcing Angelina to lead the party away from the crash site and flee into the bush.

Retired Brits, Mr and Mrs James, on the holiday of their lifetime, but who ignore her warning, are the first to be executed by the gang.

Professor Jason Dlamini, black South African anthropologist, editing the manuscript of a thesis he carries in his briefcase, buys the group a brief respite by disguising himself as a labourer returning to his tribal land.

Pieter and Anna Snyder from Dar es Salaam. She's giddy-headed. He's a tough building contractor who swears if he had a rifle, he would take the gang on single handed. He gets his chance.

Eighteen year old David Clegg, student at Montreal University, has learnt a little about abseiling. Ultra-shy but smitten by Angelina, he teams up with her and the two teenagers form a synergy, challenging each other to think their way out of the situation.

Colin and Sheila Hendler, husband and wife bakers from Aukland. He jogs to his bakery every morning at three a.m., competes in marathons, and has the stamina to run mile after mile to stay in front of his pursuers.

Jacque and Vivian de Villiers from Calais. Own a sailing boat back home and know how to repair an old Nile felucca lying on the shores of Lake Kariba.

But it is Angelina's can-do attitude that drives everybody on.

Fraught with failure, a two-week, hundred-and-fifty-mile hike, cat-and-mouse escape led by her to Victoria Falls, takes its toll ... especially on those who don't believe a girl is capable of tweaking two lions' tails.

In the end however, the ordeal breaks this young girl.

Tim Hodkinson (timhodkinson) | 0 comments I mentioned a book launch elsewhere in the group, but forgot to actually say anything about my novel. I don't want to seem like I'm spamming folks so I promise I'll get this out of my system now:
I've written a novel set in medieval ireland called Lions of the Grail.
Lions of the Grail by Tim Hodkinson

Heres the "Blurb":

It is 1315 AD.

Rotting in prison, condemned as a heretic, Knight Templar Richard Savage is given a chance of reprieve if he returns to his homeland of Ireland.

There is a catch: He must work as a spy for King Edward of England.

Scotland and England are at war. The Scots intend to invade Ireland and someone in Ireland is helping them.

Savage returns to a land where he cannot be sure who to trust. Robert Bruce, King of Scotland, is said to possess a mysterious treasure, and many are flocking to his cause. Efficient, brutal killers are on the loose and in the middle of it all is Alys de Logan, Savage's former love who he abandoned to join the Templars, who some say has become a witch.

Amid feasts, tournaments and war, Savage discovers he left more than just memories behind in Ireland. Can he decide whose side he in on, where Bruce's secret treasure is and above all, stay alive?

Lions of the Grail sets its characters against real historical events and also also weaves in elements from medieval literature and celtic mythology and create a tale of high adventure.

I read the chapter from Death Wished. I like your storyline, and I like your style. The one comment I would make would be to have it proofread very closely. There were several errors, and you wouldn't want to submit it anywhere until those things are corrected. Great first effort!

Eating Smoke: One Man's Descent Into Drug Psychosis in Hong Kong's Triad Heartland - a memoir

Chris Thrall left the Royal Marines to find fortune in Hong Kong, but following a bizarre series of jobs ended up homeless and addicted to crystal methamphetamine.

He began working for the 14K, one of Hong Kong’s notorious crime syndicates, as a nightclub doorman in the Wan Chai red-light district.

Dealing with psychosis, conspiracy and the ‘foreign triad’ — a secretive expat clique that works hand-in-hand with the Chinese mafia — he had to survive in the world’s most unforgiving city, addicted to the world’s most dangerous drug . . .

When I dream,
I dream of those faraway days,
And when I dream of you,
Maudie,
Gosh, we're little children again.
You in the fig tree above my head,
And me, messing in the yard below.
Can we not go back there, Sis,
And play forever and ever?

1940’s Johannesburg.

Children at play in an adult world of prohibition, superstition, African sorcery, divination, child abduction and ritual murder.

Seven year old Maudie, kidnapped because telepathically she witnesses a ritual murder.

Her brother, nine year old Tadpole, the only one who can rescue her.

Their Zulu playmate, eight year old Amos, in a fight to the death with a python.

Hobo, the crazy mutt who pulls the children’s box-cart, runs to answer the telephone and falls out of trees.

A J Freyer, ‘Abe’, Maudie and Tadpole’s father, who warns the children to stay away from the Foster Caves.

Sampson, the family’s Zulu housekeeper and the children’s substitute mother who tells them sorcerers make themselves invisible.

Babs, the children’s alcoholic half-aunt, who drives the local breakdown lorry and parachutes from bi-planes. The police want to speak to her.

Mr Sunshine, the suave African salesman, who lugs a suitcase big enough to stuff a child inside.

Old Joseph, seventy one year old seaman of square-rigger days, despatch rider in WWI, who discusses philosophy with the children.

Mrs Probert, interfering neighbour who doesn’t believe the children are being brought up properly.

Graham and Louis, twelve year old disparate twins, cousins of Maudie and Tadpole, who burn down the school hostel.

Isanusi, the African sangoma who throws the bones for Maudie and Tadpole and foretells of bad things to come.

Mr de Beer, ‘The Bear’, the house-master who pops prescription pills to subdue a medical problem.

His African man-Friday, Lukas, who’s employed at the hostel.

And The Giraffe Man, the African sorcerer who kidnaps Maudie because she knows too much.

But do remember the gallant Tadpole.

Hard cover, soft cover, e-book.

Seven soft cover copies being given away on Goodreads.

Promotion ends November 18.

I have a new book out for Christmas. It's a YA novel -- a bit of Fantasy and Humor mixed together.

Short Synopsis:

Jack Frost has been trying to destroy Christmas for years, and in order to save his job must complete a task he deems impossible -- until he meets Santa's granddaughter Clara, who begins to change his view of what Christmas is all about.

It's getting great reviews, and is now available in paperback and ebook. Please check it out!
