Nice to meet you Amber, and i agree! i love books that take a while to read, because the details that the authors put in those books are AMAZING.

totally (agrees)

it depepnds i guess.
Boooks with detail are good, but if they just take tooooo long, then you loose interest.

message 255: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah, like lord of the rings!

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Honestly… I couldn't get past the prologue of LOTR.
Not because it was boring, though.
Just because I had no time to read a bazillion paged book.

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Amber wrote: "I think it's partailly because we aren't adults yet, so we don't understand it's "beauty" of whatever. :P"

That's true.
I can't understand the "beauty" of the long and complicated sentences.

message 258: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) LOTR can be challenging: you gotta really get into them. i couldnt read them until a few years ago because they are so detailed...but you grow up a bit and come to really enjoy the level of detail that goes into them (and the movies totally help, too!)

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Ha MOVIES are more like it.
Actually, I can barely understand and get into those, too…

message 260: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah i know, i tried reading them in like grade three- big no no
But then i tried again in year five and i mangaged though i gave up half way through the third! XD kinda sad
i'll finish the series one day but intill then...

message 261: by [deleted user] (new)

WHAT!
the movies are AWESOME!
you have to love peter jackson
hang on, did we have like a huge love fest about him only before
i dunno
anyway, i find the movies never really as good as the books and the lord of the rings movies are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO different from the actual movies, but still SOOOOOOOOO good!

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Oh the Lovely Bones! I SO want to see that. <3

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Weirdos, yes! That's why they are weird.
Haha you love my heart… that's funny... because heart=love…
Never mind.

message 265: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) the LOTR movies arent *that* different. actually, when you think of how much stuff is in the books, a great most of the important stuff made it on screen. they just rearranged the order of events... lol

message 266: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) peter said that he changed around the order of events just because he wanted things presented chronologically...which actually makes sense. i just thought he displayed Ultra-LOTR-Fan-Skills by making a storyboard timeline and following that.
because of the multiple perspectives in the books, sometimes events get a bit off-timeline. and the movies bridge that better...
but yeah i remember after we saw THE TWO TOWERS, my mom was like "where's that freaking giant evil spider??" and then we read somewhere that they were putting that into the 3rd movie instead... stuff like that.

message 267: by Pandy (last edited Jan 09, 2010 10:26PM) (new)

Pandy | 185 comments I agree about the LotR movies - it makes sense for the climaxes of the different parts of the story to coincide. I can't say that the portrayal of Faramir makes me completely happy, but I think moving Shelob to the third movie and making Faramir's release of Frodo and Sam the end of The Two Towers works nicely. Still, I can't say the movies are or ever will be better than the books. I fell in love with the books when I was eight. I don't think I would have picked them up myself, but my dad started reading them to me, and by the time the Hobbits met Aragorn at the Prancing Pony, I was hooked and had to continue reading them myself.

message 268: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) haha yeah, my parents called faramir "farfromthebookamir" lol
and the only thing my mom didnt like about the series is the absence of tom bombadil...but you know, you cant have everything :D

message 269: by Girija (new)

Girija ack i really need to read these dont i???

i think i'll start reading them soon :)

Then, what's "bonjour"?

message 283: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
'bonjour' is: Hello

message 284: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments So, Salut is informal?

message 285: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
it just means HI.

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Salut is a familiar form of hello. You COULD say it to someone who you don't know or someone you have to respect (like a teacher or something) but it's much more proper to say bonjour unless they're your friend or someone your age.
:)

message 287: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) isnt that what people say when they're toasting?
((BTW, if someone ever says "shalom" to you, technically they're not saying "hello" they're saying "peace"...but it's still used as a greeting!))

Logan Lerman & PJO•••Percy, Jace,Edward (PercyJackson_and_LoganLerman) | 243 comments Toasting? Meaning….?

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments I really want to read Lord of the Rings. Right. Now. But I have other library books to finish too first.

I would like to read Lord Of The Rings also, but i have sooooo many books to read.
But it is very rare for me to borrow a library book. I own so many, and i just keep buying them.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments I don't buy many books, but the books I add just add up and add up. XD

message 293: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 185 comments I love LotR! I don't find it hard to get through at all, but I one of those people who really like descriptions. I hope you guys have time to read LotR sometime. I know what you mean about having so many books to read. :)
