Heather Matthews | 3 comments My name is Heather. I'm an author who also loves to read teen and young adult novels. I wrote a book with a teen heroine (her name is Jane and she's 14 at the beginning of the novel), it's called The Secret Of The Emerald Sea.

I like reading about mythology, magic, mermaids, and any subject matter with a touch of romance. The Secret of the Emerald Sea by Heather Matthews

Heather Matthews | 3 comments Hi,

Thanks for the welcome. The Secret Of The Emerald Sea references Roman mythology...it's about a teenage girl who discovers a shocking secret about her own parentage. In the novel, mermaids, gods, goddesses, crones, and humans all intermingle...with dramatic results. There's a touch of teen romance, lots of adventure...it's otherworldly :)

message 1118: by cindy (new)

cindy (cinlin) I'm Cinnamon (a nickname my delightful friends gave me since it sounds like my real name). Recently turned 16. Hopeless bookworm. There's actually a pretty long/comprehensive "about me" on my profile. So if you're interested, you know where to click:).

message 1119: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I think "hopeless bookworm" decribes most of us....

Well put!

I'm reading 10 books right now. I'm a very hopeless bookworm. And your profile About me is nothing compared to mine. I had to shorten mine 'cuz it exceeded 2000 characters.

message 1121: by cindy (new)

cindy (cinlin) @Kate Thank you:).

@Allie How do you read 10 books at once? I'd probably get confused and mix up all the characters, plot lines, and such...

message 1122: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I do that all the time. You start one book, then you're reading another for English in class, and another for English independent book, then you get a book that you've been waiting for forever, so you have to start it immediately, then you want something that's comfortingly familiar, etc. and before you know it, you're reading a LOT of books. I don't think I'm ever reading just one book.

message 1125: by cindy (new)

cindy (cinlin) Yep, usually I have the school required book, the not very interested so I'm reading slowly book, and the I actually like this a lot book.

...So that's about three.

Michelle (meowchelle7) | 150 comments Hey everyone, I am Michelle and I am from Southern California! I live about an hour from LA. I am 13 and a half and I love reading books! I am half Taiwanese and half Irish-American. I love eating sushi and drinking milk tea bobas and iced green tea. :)) I love photo editing and video making, and I'm obsessed with reading, writing, and drawing as well. I have a toy poodle named Pookie, and he's one of my best friends (he fell asleep in my lap as I am typing right now) and a twin brother named Andrew. My favorite sports are volleyball and badminton. My favorite tv show is Criminal Minds, and my favorite movie is Salt. My favorite musicians include P!nk, Avril Lavigne, Sara Bareilles, Natasha Bedingfield, Olivia Lufkin, The Fray, One Republic, Brooke Fraser, Brandon Heath, Paramore, and Varsity Fanclub! I take an interest in Japanese culture, and I love watching anime (Nana being my favorite!) I love making things, such as pinatas and friendship bracelets. I am learning to play the acoustic guitar as well. :) That's all about me!

message 1138: by Kristine (new)

Kristine Lopez (kristine21) | 434 comments Hey guys, I have a question...
Can someone split his personality with his own will?
And do you know anything about the Multiple Personality Disorder? Can you tell me what you know?
Thanks! :)

message 1139: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I don't know very much about either. Sorry to be of little help. If this interests you, maybe you should read Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Why do you ask?

message 1140: by Kristine (new)

Kristine Lopez (kristine21) | 434 comments THANKS! :)

I need it for my research in our English subject. MPD is my topic :) thanks again! :)

message 1141: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments If you want it foe English, then definitely read Jekyll and Hyde. It's perfect for that.

message 1142: by Kristine (new)

Kristine Lopez (kristine21) | 434 comments OKAy! THANKS!!! :D it's going to be a really big help! :)

message 1143: by [deleted user] (new)

It is called Dissociative Identity Disorder now, not Multiple Personality Disorder. (One of the degrees I am working on now is in Psychology.) I highly recommend getting a copy of the DSM-IV TR and seeing what it says about DID and go from there.

message 1144: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I think multiple personality was the old name. Maybe it wasn't fancy-enough sounding or something. :P

Do you know why it changed?

message 1145: by [deleted user] (new)

MPD is the old term, which is why I wrote, "It is called Dissociative Identity Disorder now...."

It depends on who you talk to. If you talk to someone who is a practicing therapist, they may tell you that DID was a compromise because essentially the wording for its symptoms and MPD's symptoms in the DSM are the same. If you talk to someone who mostly does research in the field, their argument may be that "everyone is born with only one personality, so MPD cannot exist" for changing the wording of MPD to DID.

And of course when I wrote that post above yours on my phone, it cut out the part about if Kristine is not in the US her cultural view about the subject will be a bit different than those in the US because outside the US, MPD is still a very valid diagnosis and not the same as DID. That's one of the fun things about Psychology; it's heavily cultural in many places.

message 1146: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I didn't notice the now. Sorry.

OK, that make sense, and I agree that it is very interesting how culture affects psychology and vice versa.
