Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Question - what if I have all the items claimed by next Friday? Will I still need to read a book for the next item called?

message 502: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Nope, you'll be all done! Oh yeah that's right you can finish with your rainbow book I think :)

message 503: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Just double checked you'll be finished Melanie with your items after your rainbow book is done! The rest of us have to read one more book to finish.

message 504: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Good to know! I will be done with my rainbow book. :) I had thought I might still need to read the item called - glad that's not the case.

This has been a really fun challenge! Sorry I've been a little slow to get the books done the past few weeks... I'm usually much quicker.

message 505: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) It's not a big deal to be a little behind, sometimes it even helps! At the very end though its a race to the finish! And I agree I love this challenge its my favorite team challenge.

Jennifer H Jenne wrote: "That would be the end of us lol :) I think it's like 31 hrs on audio! That's insane"

Actually, it's 32 according to the library box it came in :)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Yikes!

message 508: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Luckily next week all I'll need is nose and I have quite a few quick reads with faces on the cover. Here's hoping the item called won't be a body part!!!

message 509: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H As long as lightning or hood aren't called on Monday I have my book picked...I'd Tell You Tell You I Love You But Then I's Have to Kill You. It's a bit over 200 pages (around 6 hours) long and it's pretty obvious it's an easy read :)

message 510: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Perfect Jennifer!

message 511: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Week Eight - Emergency Vehicle

Scream A Novel by Mike Dellosso

I read: Scream: A Novel by Mike Dellosso
Finished: 1/27/2013
Rating: 5 stars

My review:

Scream is the second book I've read by Mike Dellosso and, like Frantic, I loved it! Scream was such a great suspense novel that had some supernatural elements. The book definitely made me think about how everyone has an appointment with death and the importance of trusting in Jesus alone for salvation.

I really liked the characters. I was surprised that women were kidnapped in Scream (I obviously didn't read the description well), but I have to say, I did guess who "Judge" was early on in the book. Still, I found myself "on the edge" of my seat in suspense a LOT (especially towards the end).

The whole screams aspect of the story was very weird, but it did make the novel more intriguing.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Scream and definitely recommend it if you enjoy suspense books that have some supernatural elements.

*I did not get this book for review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Rainbow Week:
Read Hunted (Brides of the Kindred, #2) by Evangeline Anderson by Evangeline Anderson
Finished:1/27/13
Rating:★★★★☆
Review:
3.75
This picks up right were Olivia & Baird's story left off but it's about Sophie & Sylvan. Both of them are emotionally damaged and letting past experiences and fears prevent them from being together. The Scourge is hunting Sophie & Sylvan has sworn to protect her at all costs. It was predictable at times but still a great read. It's hard to remember that the Kindred are aliens because they don't act like it. I really do enjoy this series and Evangeline Anderson is one of my favorite authors for this genre.

Review:
Overall, this was a good addition to the series, but the constant shift in focus between two plots slowed down the action a little too much. Sometimes it was hard to keep up with what was happening. The author showed us yet another side of Riley, so much so that I almost didn't recognize her. Seeing Quinn again was nice, and the overall story was good, but the more sluggish pace, as well as less tension between the main characters, made it less enjoyable than other books in the series.

message 529: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Well it looks like team 4 will probably finish this week. They only need their point for sky so provided they finish before Friday they'll win. If they do win dawn will still call a new item Friday for 2nd and 3rd place :(

message 530: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Well, I think we did great for having 3 newbies on our team. If I'm reading the spreadsheet right (and I'm never actually sure I am) we are in 3rd place right now. It looks like team 5 might have turned in their rainbow points already and we haven't yet so if we read quickly come Friday we could get 2nd place :)

Am I totally wrong about that Jenne?

message 531: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) We did! The spreadsheet isn't totally accurate either because it's not updated till caps post for points. Regardless if team 4 finishes this week or not another item will be called on Friday. If team 4 is done by that point we'll be reading for second & third place. That will be decided by who finishes and the captain who gets points posted first. If team 4 isn't done by then (which I doubt) then we're reading for the win. So long story short Friday will still be read until you can't see straight lol. Thursday I'm going to preset our links etc. So Thursday I'm going to have us pick a post and go ahead and link it and get the basic info up so I can turn the points is as fast as possible (except Melanie since she'll be done this week)

message 532: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I'm 21% done with my rainbow book. I should have it done tonight or tomorrow.

message 533: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Good deal! Then you'll be all done :)

message 534: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Wow, Melanie is done after her rainbow book?

message 535: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) :) Can't believe this challenge is almost over... it seems like it just started a little while ago. LOL! :)

message 536: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I know! Melanie will finish this week. While the rest of us will just need a couple of more things.

message 537: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H As the saying goes..."Time flies when your having fun" :)

message 538: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Lol, so true this round went a little faster I think. I guess the teams and the calls went smoother this round.

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'm kind of sad that the challenge is almost over. I really enjoyed it!

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Week 9: Rainbow

I read: Darkfever - Karen Marie Moning
Finished: January 28th 2013
Rating: 5/5

I absolutely LOVED this book. I genuinely could not put it down. This is the first book in the Fever series, and it really does a great job of hooking you and making you want more! I went in knowing barely anything about the series, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the paranormal element came in the form of fairies! And not your run-of-the-mill, mischevous Tinkerbell types, but vicious, dangerous and hideous (for the most part) creatures. After Mac's sister is killed while studying in Dublin, Mac takes it upon herself to find her sister's killer, but quickly finds herself drawn into Jericho Barrons' search for the Objects of Power.

The world building is fantastic. There's so much depth put into Moning's version of a fairy-invaded Dublin, complete with Dead Zones and no-man's-land. The characters are also great. This first book really an incredible job of giving you just enough information about the situation and the characters to really draw you in, but also leaving enough mystery that I absolutely can't wait to dive into the next book!

Items to claim:
Rainbow:
"'...Why then, Ms. Lane, do you look like a perky rainbow?'" (Kobo pg. 106)
Belt: "Black capris, a wide silver belt, silver sandals...completed my outfit." (Kobo pg. 48)
Fruit: "The only thing I remember about Kafka's Metamorphosis is the awful apple that got impacted in the bug's back..." (Kobo pg. 117)
Elbow: "Smiling fixedly, she took me by the elbow and practically dragged me to a bathroom..." (Kobo pg. 71)

message 541: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I have the second Fever book out from the library (I'm hooked!) so I'll probably read that for next week, depending on the item that gets called.

message 542: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Yes KMM weaves crack in her words :) I devoured those books! Once you get to 3-5 they become a roller coater ride. Barrons is my man, BTW lol

message 543: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Finished my rainbow book. Will post review asap. :)

message 544: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) It's going to kill me to wait until Friday to start book two! Especially with that ending. I need more! LOL

message 545: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Well read it then start book 3 Friday :)
FYI all of her books end like that. I'd get em all lined up. The end of 3 and 4 will KILL you if you don't have the next ones. The wait between Dreamfever and Shadowfever nearly killed me. I've never had a book I was dying to get my hands on as bad as I did for Shadowfever.

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) Week 9: Rainbow

I read: Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble
Finished: 1/28/2013
My rating: 3 stars

My review:

I've read a lot of Colleen Coble's books and she is a favorite author of mine. Although Tidewater Inn isn't my favorite of hers (that would be Abomination), I did still like it and found it to be an enjoyable read.

Something I particularly loved was how Bree, her family, and search & rescue dog, Samson, showed up in Tidewater Inn and played an important role in the story! I'm so glad Colleen brought back these characters and I hope they will be in some of her future novels as well.

I didn't care for how the story seemed to repeat things often and, at times, seemed inconsistent. I liked the characters and my favorite was probably Alec or Libby (I'm excluding Bree and her family because, of course, they are favorites).

There were quite a few times I was surprised by things in Tidewater Inn - which I really liked.

Overall, I enjoyed Tidewater Inn and look forward to reading book two in the Hope Beach series when it releases. If you enjoy mystery novels with some sweet romance, then I think you might enjoy Tidewater Inn as well. Good read!

*I received a complimentary eBook copy of the book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
