Rita (rccola1945hotmailcom) | 513 comments Thanks Fracis. I thought, that was a cute picture. I really, never cared for those dogs, but I stole, my oldest gandaughter's, little one, after, I had to keep, her for a month. Brandi's 2 boys, were, kinda, mean to her, so I kept her, & now she is mine. I call her Little Bit, because of her size, but her real name is Sprinkles. I also have a, Manchester Terrior, I adopted, & 1 very, mad cat.

Hi Guys

I am new to the group (just joined seconds ago).
I am a vampire fanatic! I grew up on hammer house of horrors (does that give my age away?)
I have just released my first book, and yes it is a vampire book. http://www.amazon.com/Behind-Blue-Eye... Today only it is free to down load if you want to take a look at it.
Hope to speak to some of you guys soon

Dee

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments Hi Dee, welcome. It's quiet in here sometimes - we hide in the shadows most of the time - but it's a nice place to talk about writing. Good luck with the book.

Hi Francis
Many thanks.
I maybe quiet at times also as I work offshore and the wifi system does not always let you on (It like to hide also).

Dee

Nobody, knows, just what will come, out of my mouth, not even me. It depends on the subject, & my mood at the time. Still, Laughing, is so much better, than crying. I really don't cry often, thank God. Francis, is funny to. He made a remark to me this morning, & just had to laugh, at what he said. Have a good day.

What fun would it be in hiding? They'd only find us as they attempt the conversions. I fear all is lost. Hot dogs, peanuts, cracker jacks.

message 425: by [deleted user] (new)

Dont get me started on hot dogs...

On a more boring note: I am looking to get some new vamp / horror books, can you guys recommend any good ones (I am in to the gorey type books, no the ones for YA) Cheers

message 426: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Dawson | 63 comments Let me look at my list. Shrouds of Darkness by Brock Deskins You can see my review:http://www.amazon.com/review/R3DTDU8W...

Blood Lines is a good read. Review:http://www.amazon.com/review/R33N3JEA...

If you're looking for something with a true historical backdrop and plenty of blood letting, you might like the one I wrote. Occupation by Jeff Dawson

Very good D.m.

Good morning all, I'm taking it slow to make sure the break-out has been secured and all bizarre intruders have been accounted for.

message 435: by K.D. (new)

K.D. McQuain (kd_mcquain) | 23 comments I just posted the prologue to the novel I'm trying to finish to my writing section and would love some feedback. Thanks.

message 436: by Francis (new)

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments Spelling... Grammar...

Do you really need a Prologue? What exactly does it achieve? What is the intention?

Why should the reader care at all what happens to any of the characters?

That said... I've proved well able to alienate readers within a couple of pages of the start of a novel, so don't listen to me!

message 437: by K.D. (new)

K.D. McQuain (kd_mcquain) | 23 comments I'm using it as a teaser and back story. It hopefully gives some insight to how the ball got rolling before the narrative begins.

message 438: by Francis (new)

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments But Prologues will automatically alienate a certain section of readers, and some people just skip them.

I suppose the questions is: Is this a bit of unnecessary plumage - a DVD extra, so to speak - or is essentially Chapter 1, in which case why call it a Prologue?

Which is not to say you should never have a Prologue, but be aware they are a potential problem.

I don't really know what you were going for, and I only read part of it, but my immediate impression was: "Oh. Another serial killer story. Sigh." And, yeah, yeah, but...

There is something startlingly beautiful about blood in motion, warm and vital, rivulets of bright arterial scarlet cascading down steps bleached white by centuries of unforgiving sunlight.
