Lina Shelf: SERIES CATCH-UP
Lacybourne Manor (Ghosts and Reincarnation, #3) by Kristen Ashley
Book: Lacybourne Manor by Kristen Ashley
Finished: 16-10-12
Rating: ★★
Review: This is a hard one for me to rate. I disliked so many things about this story. I loathed how Sybil gave in about the money. I disliked how weak she seemed when it came to anything to do with Colin, and yet her temper, for all it was supposed to be flaming, only ever got her into trouble but never seemed to work to get her way. I hated how Colin kept everything from her for so long. And yet... the story did suck me in, even if there were more than a few eye-rolls at the end.

message 204: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments I'm reading either Borrowed Ember (Fire Spirits #3) by Samantha Young or Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs , I'll probably end up reading both this week lol but I've already started Blood Bound so probably finish it first :)

message 205: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Vampire Shelf finished: 10/15/12 5 stars

I loved this book! It has been on my to read list for awhile, but wasn't in any real hurry to read it, I'm so happy I saw it on the overdrive account, I didn't know what I was missing. I loved her personality and her banter with everyone. Loved Adam and Warren!

Yeah, that is one of my favorite series. Mercy is great. She also wrote a spin-off PNR series with Charles. If you want to read that series, make sure you read the short story Alpha & Omega first. It is in On the Prowl by Patricia Briggs or I think you can get it by itself with a Kindle or Nook. It is still my all-time favorite short story.

message 210: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments How funny, I ordered the first Alpha & Omega book with the 666 book from Alyssa, but had no idea it was a spin-off. Also thanks for the tip on reading the short first, I tend to go back and read those later. Does it matter where I am in the Mercy series when I start Alpha & Omega?

message 211: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Nope, I think you're clear once you've read the first Mercy book.

message 212: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments Shelf: Series catch-up
Book:The Ugly Duchess by Eloisa James
Rating:★★★★
Date: 10/17/12
Review:While I really liked this story, I didn't really like the main male character. Theo had every reason to be upset, but instead of dealing with it, James leaves - for seven years??!! I know he was young, but that part pissed me off. And the way he handled things when his father died, again childish and selfish. Things moved along very quickly in the end, when he finally grew up.

Well.... I personally would have read them based on their release dates. Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs very briefly mentions Charles and Anna. So, maybe if you read the first Alpha & Omega before then, it wouldn't hurt.

message 214: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments Yeah I'm kinda anal about that sort of thing lol, but if others weren't mentioned it wouldn't have mattered, guess I need to go look at a list. Especially since I got the books today so I have the first now! Will probably buy the prequel book this weekend (thanks for the tip about it being by itself).

message 215: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25913 comments Heather basically the prequel is the first 70 or so pages of Alpha & Omega and not a separate standalone story, so do read it first.

message 216: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I finished my series catch up book today (10/19) and gave it 4 stars.

Review:

**** there are spoilers to previous books *****

This series just keeps on delivering...

Gin decides to take a vacation with Bria, Owen and Finn, but she just can't escape the Spider as Bria's best friend is being threatened to sell her restaurant and the cop's can't do anything about it as the vampire owns most the town. Gin gets in over her head, but fights her way out. Lots of great action and heart and Donovan makes an appearance.

By a Thread (Elemental Assassin, #6) by Jennifer Estep

message 217: by Kate (new)

Kate (fictionalkate) | 478 comments Now I'm even more sure than ever I want to read that series, Diane.

I'll have to move it up the to-read list.

message 218: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I highly recommend it. Of the 6 books I've read so far, I've given 2 of them 3 stars, 1 got 5 stars and the other 3 got 4 stars. And 3 stars is the norm for me for most books. Plus they are hard to put down once you start.

message 219: by Lina (new)

Lina I'm tossing up between Ecstasy Unveiled (Demonica, #4) by Larissa Ione and Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #7) by Kresley Cole for this week's Demons Shelf.

message 220: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments For the demon shelf I will read Sex, Lies and Vampires and continue the series.
Sex, Lies and Vampires (Dark Ones, #3) by Katie MacAlister

message 221: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I'm probably going to read this for the Demon shelf.

Kate (fictionalkate) | 478 comments So many choices of books I want to read for this shelf.

I think I'll go with Dead Witch Walking Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison

I've heard good things about this series... and it has the added bonus of being in the pile of books that's right in front of me on my desk :P

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead
Rating:★★★★★
Date: 22 October 2012
Review:
Oh my.... I think this is my new favourite YA series. I love the characters. I love the action. And I love how nothing happens just how I expect it too.
Rose is such a strong and competent heroine and yet at the same time a little bit bitchy and acknowledges that she's not perfect. I loved the banter between her and Adrian as well as the strong friendship she shares with Lissa.

It's a good thing that I bought all of the series at once because I started book 4 as soon as I finished the last page of Shadow Kiss...

Not a very long or detailed review - I never know what to say when I really liked a book. I have a tenancy to fan girl and just get a bit gushy... so I thought I'd keep it short and sweet.

Review: I am enjoying this series. This was another quick fun read. I did get a little confused at the end because things happened so fast. I didn't like the way Saer treated his "Beloved" or the way she accepted it. Previous books have made the Beloved so very important that it didn't jive with this.

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments 2 more reviews from me coming up, and then I think we might be ready for at least 1 stamp...

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I finished Whispers at Moonrise (Shadow Falls, #4) by C.C. Hunter for the Vampires shelf on 10/22/12.

Rating: ★★★★½

Review: It was really good! Kylie is one awesome supernatural in my opinion. I wonder what else we'll learn about her in the last book.

Poor Kylie though.... She has so many things to deal with at the same time. It's kind of crazy. Boys, ghosts, her supernaturalness, and more.... I feel for her.

Ugh.... I didn't realize the next book, Chosen at Nightfall (Shadow Falls, #5) by C.C. Hunter , is the last book. I feel like there could be so much more to the series. Can't wait to see how it ends.

Review: OMG!! I love this series! The action, romance, and mystery of it is perfect.

Mercy and Riley are just fantastic. I loved them together. I spent a lot of the time going "Aww...". I think them together will be awesome for the series.

Now that all the cats are paired up, I'm excited to see what pairings happen next. I already have Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changeling, #7) by Nalini Singh sitting here just waiting for a new shelf to be called.

message 236: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments Of course the book I'm reading for series catch up the main big bad is a demon should have picked the other book for last week haha (I'm almost done with it by the way, I've just had a busy week, and most of my free time has been used to watch baseball games... they take up a lot of time).

I had a question about a demon book would Borrowed Ember be ok? On the 2nd page of the genre 1 person has listed it as demons (and it wasn't me), wasn't sure if since you could easily add it yourself if it needed more then 1 person to list it that way.

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments Shelf: Series Catch-up finished 10/27/12

Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs 4 1/2 stars

I think I liked the first one a bit better, I just got into the first one a bit faster, but I think this one probably had a better ending, although found a bit of it anticlimactic . I think I just wish she would have worked with either Adam or Samuel more, although I like Stefan to. I'm not necessarily a Samuel fan but I really hope he comes out of his funk, I like having his character in the book and would hate for him to go back.

Review:
This made me wonder why I left it so long to get back to this series. Loved Lore's story, poor guy couldn't seem to catch a break, and Idess seemed truly kick-ass yet good to the core. Fantastic story, though I'm wondering how they're going to keep the background tension going without Roag. I'm not sure if it was the mood I was in or if this truly marks an improvement in the author's writing style, but the banter seemed less stilted and the action well-paced.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Finished my demon shelf book today (10/28) and gave it 3 stars.

Review:
I really liked Carrow and wished I could have seen more of her with Ruby and Malkom in the real world. I also wanted to know more about what happened to some of the others on the island. Personally, I thought the book was about 75 pages too long with most of it being really long seduction scenes as Carrow got to know Malkom. I understand they didn't speak the same language, but it seemed like the only communication was sex-based.
