Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments I finished my kick-ass-heroine book, and will write a review later (after I've had more caffeine, seeing as I was up until 4 am finishing it haha). Still debating on my favorite author book, I realized as I read what was called I don't really have a favorite author really, just book series I get excited for or a few authors I tend to gravitate towards.

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments I finished Kick-Ass Heroine on 9/24/2012

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee

Rating: 5 stars
Review: Basically angels have taken over the world destroying everything in their wake, and the main characters family decides it would be safer to get to a bigger city that has already been hit, then to stay where they are. When the main characters little sister is taken by an angel she goes on a trek with an injured warrior angel to rescue her.

I really enjoyed this book, it took me a little to get into it (although I did like it from the beginning, but I was reading it on my mom's fire and kept getting distracted by games), but last night I went to bed with it 56% done and didn't stop until I finished it. It had a great action packed story line, and no "it's the end of the world and my life and others are on the line, but let me stop and obsess over a guy" which really gets on my nerves after awhile. Also while you could figure out what was going to happen if you really thought about it, it wasn't overly predictable. It takes place in the area I have lived my entire life, so that made it a little more fun. Honestly I'm going to have a really hard time waiting until next year for the next book to come out.

Lina Great work Heather!

Is that all of us done for the Kick-Ass Heroine stamp, Alyssa?

message 106: by Alyssa (last edited Sep 25, 2012 02:22AM) (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Thanks for double-checking me, CaroB. I totally missed your review..... I caught the post saying you'd post it later, and then missed it. So sorry! *goes and sits in the corner for a time-out*

EDIT...

I missed Cathy's review too. Sorry.... *sighs* I guess it's double time-out for me. At least Judithe isn't in our group... I'd be getting the whip if she was.... :-P

message 107: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments OK. I think I got everything now. *fingers crossed*

I requested our Kick-Ass Heroine stamp. So, if you feel a slight breeze go by you when there shouldn't be one.... It's just one of Steph's ninjas. You're not going crazy. :-)

I think I got us all updated. If somebody would check my work, since I apparently missed things, that would be fantastic, and you might get a treat.

Book:Under a Vampire Moon by Lynsay Sands
Under a Vampire Moon (Argeneau, #16) by Lynsay Sands

Rating: 3 1/2 stars

Finished: 9/24/12

Review: This was another cute fast read from the Argeneau Vampire series. I enjoyed the humor, especially that bits that played off the gay pretense. I would have liked to see the discovery at the end played out more completely.

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I finished Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout for the Favorite Author on 9/25/12.

Rating: ★★★★★

Review: ~♥ Kat ♥~ was soo right! I loved it! I'm kicking myself right now, cuz I don't have
Onyx (Lux, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout to read right next.

Speaking of kicking myself.... I wish I could kick Daemon around a little bit. I like all the fiery exchanges that him and Katy have, but she really just needs to smack him one of these times. *sighs*

Anyways... I thought the whole thing was fun and interesting. Definitely something different from what I normally read. (I read I Am Number Four and really liked it, but that's it for my alien experiences.) I can't wait to read Onyx. I'd say it might be a little while, but I'm sure I'll buy it next week after I get paid. So, if it fits on a shelf that's called soon, get your earplugs ready. I bet there will be some high-pitched shrieking going on. :-)

message 113: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments We're all updated, again.

Cathy, for your Free Space review, I also need you to put in how you picked it. Did you find it on the SOS group bookshelf, or was it one of the other options? I just don't want one of those ninjas coming after you. (I don't know for sure if we need to specify it or not in our reviews... I just want to make the whole stamp-checking process as easy as possible for the ninjas.) Could you edit your review for me when you get a chance? Thanks! :-)

I picked 666 Park Avenue (666 Park Avenue, #1) by Gabriella Pierce for my Free Space read. Found it on the group bookshelf. Thought I'd check it out now, since there's gonna be a TV show starting on Sunday based off of it. (I think....) Plus, I've had it sitting around here for a while.

message 114: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments I really want to read that book Alyssa (yes it is becoming a tv show), the show looks good, so I'm sure the book is great.

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm glad you loved Obsidian Alyssa I knew you would! Jennifer Armentrout is my favorite author of the year. I've read all her books up to date with the exception of 2 or 3 but those are at the very top of my TBR pile waiting to be read.

I see from your bookshelf that you have read some of the Covenant series as well, a GR buddy and myself are planning a series re-read in November in time for the next book release if you would like to join us your more then welcome.

As just a little tidbit for you Jennifer Armentrout also writes under the name J. Lynn and has 2 or 3 books under that name as well :)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments Free Space - On the Young Adult shelf for the group finished on 9/27/12

Slumber (The Fade, #1) by Samantha Young

I'm not sure how I feel about this book, as I was reading it I kept thinking it just wasn't as good as the other books I've read by this author, but then I ended up reading it in one sitting (and I'm a fairly slow reader so 370 pages takes some time for me). I definitely liked it, and want to read the second book when it comes out, just feel a little blah towards it I guess. Maybe I'm more into the darker paranormal and not as much fairytale type books. So I give it 3 stars.

I might have to join you on the re-read, Kat. Thanks for the invite.

J. Lynn! That's her other name. I couldn't remember, and hadn't felt like looking it up. Have you read those books by her?

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

No I haven't Alyssa but they are on the top of my TBR if they are anything like Lux or Covenant I think they will be good reads as well

message 124: by Lina (new)

Lina So the new shelf has been called:

Urban Fantasy

I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to read. Good luck everyone!

message 125: by Lina (new)

Lina OK, I'll be reading Some Girls Bite from that shelf :-)

message 126: by Heather (Heatso) (new)

Heather (Heatso) (hyperweather) | 68 comments Whoops just realized didn't say what I was reading for last week, I'm almost done with Smokeless Fire for favorite author.

For this week trying to decide what to read, trying really really hard not to buy a new book and stick with what I own for at least a few weeks haha so I'm going to start either Darkfever or Guilty Pleasures and see what holds my attention more :)

message 127: by Kate (new)

Kate (fictionalkate) | 478 comments I'm so far behind at the moment... I'll catch up next week but until wednesday I won't get any reading done... just too much going on. But I'll be up to date by this time next week. I won't let the team down!

message 128: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Thanks for posting the link, CaroB! I was at work.... Boo....

Yay! Some Girls Bite! I'm excited to see what you think.

Heather wrote: "For this week trying to decide what to read, trying really really hard not to buy a new book and stick with what I own for at least a few weeks haha so I'm going to start either Darkfever or Guilty Pleasures and see what holds my attention more :) "

I liked both of them. I can't say which will hold your attention more... But, the Fever series only has 5 books, whereas the Anita Blake series is like 16 or 17 books. (or some big number like that)

You're doing just fine, Kate! Make sure you're enjoying your reading too!

message 129: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments Ok. I picked Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter for the Urban Fantasy shelf.

I'll update later.... It's about time for some sleep.

I think I will end up liking them both honestly haha just not sure which I'm more in the mood for... although that's good to know how many of each, not sure I'm up for starting a huge series right now, although I thought the Darkfever had more then that (I think because it has so many different covers I just figured they were different books in passing), but now I see its set in the same world as another series, should I be reading the Highlander books first?

message 131: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I have no idea about the Highlander books. I'm pretty sure they were written before the Fever books... I didn't feel like I was missing anything without them. But, you might have a little more experience with that world if you read them first. If those are about the characters that showed up in the Fever books, then they showed up a little bit, but not too much, in my opinion.

message 132: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Cathy Galloway | 140 comments Favorite Author book

Into the Dreaming by Karen Marie Moning
Completed: 9/29/12
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This book contains a new story, along with some "bonus materials". As far as I'm concerned, they could have kept their bonus materials. These included an alternate version (first 50 pages) of The Dark Highlander, some samples of Moon Fever (the new graphic novel, and a proposal for a book she never wrote. I did enjoy the story, Into the Dreaming. Based on just that, I would have given it 4 stars. I like the dark, edgy fae that KMM writes about in her Fever series and this is kind of the intro to that. I would have liked to see more with the characters after Aedon got his memories back, but at least we got an epilogue.

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments I finished 666 Park Avenue (666 Park Avenue, #1) by Gabriella Pierce for the Free Space on 9/30/12.

Rating: ★★★★

Review: I liked it. It was a good witchy book.

Jane was cool. She learned a lot about herself throughout the book.

The Dorans are insane. I just wanted to smack the lot of them around. Grrr...

Slight cliffhanger at the end. I'll be checking out the second book, The Dark Glamour (666 Park Avenue, #2) by Gabriella Pierce , whenever I get a chance. I'm not in a huge rush though.

I decided to read the book now, cuz I've had it sitting around waiting to be read for months. Plus, there's now a show called 666 Park Avenue.

I just watched the first episode tonight. Uh... I thought it was pretty cool, and I'm definitely interested.... But so far, it was nothing like the book. A couple names are the same, and that was about it for the similarities, that I noticed.

Anyone else watch?

Book: MAGIC STUDY, read from
The Study Series Bundle (Study, #1-3) by Maria V. Snyder

Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 27st September, 2012
Review: I enjoyed Magic Study and Yelena's continued journey to discover her magical abilities. I found some of the newly introduced characters interesting, but was glad we got to see some old friends as well. The good vs evil fight left me wondering who was really who in the magician's keep and why Yelena always seems to come out as the underdog who wins the day.

Shelf: Urban Fantasy
You Slay Me (Aisling Grey Guardian, #1) by Katie MacAlister

Book: You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 2nd October, 2012
Review: I really enjoyed this book. Aisling Grey is a courier who gets herself caught up in a world of magic, gorgeous thieving dragons and a underground underworld in Paris that she never dreamed existed.

I really enjoyed reading this one. The characters are a little zany and have some entertaining banter. I liked the ideas and how they all gelled together in the story.

I liked all the different forms of magical creature (dragons, wiccans, demons etc.) that were incorporated into the story. They all managed to co-exist in a way that made sense to me reading it. And I love books set in Europe so this was another fantastic thing in the book's favour. I'm glad I finally got around to buying the first book in this series - I've had the second one sitting on my shelves for a few years and now that I've finished You Slay Me I can start reading it.

Do you have a copy of 666 Park Avenue (666 Park Avenue, #1) by Gabriella Pierce ? Cuz I think if we're friends on PBS, then I can send you the book, without posting it to everyone else. I don't know for sure though. I haven't been doing PBS too long. I figured if you want it, and I have it, then you could jump the line, and I could just send it to you.
