R6: Team #5 ~ High-Fivers

I think I'm going to read

I have

Alyssa may I make a recommendation :) I just finished reading Obsidian and Onyx by Jennifer Armentrout and Loved them both, it's a fantastic series :)

Review:
Another good book in a great, and long series. This time Eve and Peabody are looking for dirty cops. You are told who the bad guys are pretty close to the beginning so most of the book is about how to prove it. Eve takes a look at what it means to command/lead. I would have liked a little more pay off at the end.

But then I always get intimidated by just how many books there are... Once I start a series I usually feel compelled to finish it.

Book: Frostbite by Richelle Mead

Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 18th September, 2012
Review:I loved the first one book in the series and this was a great follow-up. Rose is just as feisty and strong. Lissa's entertaining and I liked the development of her powers, her relationship with Christian and her accepting her position amongst the Moroi as the representative for the Dragomir Royal Family.
This book is a lot more concerned with the politics of the race as well as their evil enemy, the Strigoi, with less attention paid to the dynamics of high school. I liked how the series is progressing and I can't wait to read the third book however I missed Rose interacting with the rest of the students at St. Vladimir's.
In terms of action - this book had a lot. There was a lot of violence, murder and a fantastic fight scene towards the end of the book that near broke my heart. I loved the new characters of Tasha and Adrian who were introduced and I can't wait to read the next book to see what we find out next - about the world of the Vampires and about just what happens next in Rose's life romantically.

I ended up picking

I'm definitely gonna try to get to

I have no idea what I'm going to pick for my Free Space book yet, but I'll figure it out soon.

I think one I was confused on was CaroB. Are you reading

Now I just need to wait for the postman to deliver Some Girls Bite...

I'm reading

Huh?!?"
Oh yeah, I meant to say something yesterday. While Kate did an awesome job knocking out her Kick-Ass Heroine book, Diane was actually the first one to read her book. She finished it like the same day as the shelf announcement! (I'm sorry, Diane, we must have missed it because others were still picking their books. You just finished soo fast!)
Anyways, great job to both Diane and Kate for reading super fast. Enjoy your Free Space books!

Waiting sucks....

If you decide to change your book for whatever reason, no worries. Just let me know. I've done it too. Picked one right away and then found something better later.

Huh?!?"
Ohmygosh! Sorry Diane! I'm such a doofus!

I'm just checking on you all. I'm about half way through my kick-ass read. Hope to be done maybe tomorrow evening. (For once I don't have to work at 3:30AM on Sunday morning!! Party!!)

Huh?!?"
Ohmygosh! Sorry Diane! I'm such a doofus!"
No problem :)

Review:Well that was certainly some ending. (view spoiler) . I like this series. I like that Merit tries to do what is best for her house and city, not necessarily what is best for her or the GP. I like the group she has around her, they all bring something to the table even in books where they stay mostly in the background. I'm not fond of the fact that every hot guy/supernatural seems to fall for Merit, but that is fairly common in UF. I like the bits of Chicago that come out in the books, like the food in this one. It will be interesting to see how human/vampire relations play out in the future.

Almost new shelf time. I think there's probably a pretty good chance you'll get a shelf that has

I'll be reading

Hmmm, if it is worth a re-read so quickly, it must be good...

If not no biggie, I have tons of other books to choose from :)

The shelf is favorite author and that is the only criteria, apart from the 200 minimum page limit.

I'll have to give this one some thought. Most of my favourite authors I have read all the books that have out because I can't help but read them the week they're released.

Great thank you! I just wanted to make sure

I often mind myself having to restrain my inner fangirl to keep from my reviews just being squeals of excitement when I finish reading books that I loved that much!
Glad you enjoyed Mercy!

Rating: ★★★★★ + ♥♥♥♥♥
Review: I loved it. I think even more than the others before it.... I read the whole second half of it in one sitting last night. It was just.... fantastic.
Adam and Mercy just made me go "Aww...." like the whole time.
It was cool to get some concrete information about Mercy's background. I thought all the new characters were pretty awesome.
Now, I'm all sad, cuz I wish there was another out that I could read. I'm definitely going to be pre-ordering the next one. Can't wait.
Squeeeee!!!! (I just had to squeal once....) :-D

We've halfway earned our Kick-Ass Heroine stamp.
I didn't fill in anyone's choices for Favorite Author, because it seemed like you all were choosing between a couple of good books. So, I'll fill it in later.
I'm off to start on

Book: Poison Study, read from

Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 21st September, 2012
Review: I must admit I'm not usually a fan of Young-Adult fiction, but having heard so many things about this series, I was curious to read it and this shelf gave me the perfect excuse to begin with the first book. What I found was a well-woven world of courtly intrigue, an intelligent but tortured heroine who is finding her strengths and her place in her new life, and an unexpected romance. The writing was great, the plot sucked me in and left me wanting to read further. I went straight into Assassin Study, and plan on starting Magic Study this week. As is often the case with a good book, I was left thinking, "Why didn't I read this sooner?"

Book: Creed

Rating: ★★★

Review: This was a 3.5 stars read for me, from an author who is usually a solid 4 star read. It's not that I didn't like the book. I did. Let's face it, Kristen Ashley even on a bad day knows how to weave a good yarn with some ass kicking of bad guys and some steamy sex scenes to boot :-) But it was less than I was hoping for.
I loved Sylvie's character. She. kicked. ass. And it's so novel to see a female lead in a Kristen Ashley book (apart from Jules in Rock Chick Renegade), who can lead. Who can be tough, who smokes, who can separate her heart from her body and who swears. Because she is meant to be a badass, through her job and through her own perceptions of herself, so for me, it worked. I found it refreshing to see a heroine who wasn't a cookie-cutter version of every other and whose history completely explained why she had become the way she was.
What disappointed me was that the plot (except for the backstory) and the hero seemed so much like others in the K.A. lineup... Don't get me wrong, there's an element of "if it aint broke don't fix it" going on here, because I have to say K.A.'s heroes are smokin' hot! But I felt that in trying to get these two characters together, they changed from the tough bad-ass H/h we meet at the beginning of the book into something too mushy. I loved the angst, loved the backstory, loved the characters at the beginning of the book. But when I finished, I was left flat and wondering if K.A. has started writing from a formula. I hope not.

For my free space I will read Under a Vampire Moon by Lynsay Sands.
