the magician reached
into his mangled top hat
and pulled out dinner

in a flash of light
a huge pianist appeared
- the shocked magician
examined his magic wand
and found it was upside down

Steadily ticking
Sand guided by glass, falls through
Future, present, past

These are really good!

that wave of her hand-
a clear sign she's expecting
one more new present

and suddenly she
finds that she was not looking
her entire life

I think it’s good!

Through clinched lids the eyes
still see an entire life
Pass before one dies

of the red light district with

the curse of fruitless payments

The past's Christmas ghost
cursed the backward blinkers
who dropped their wallets
in the red bawdy houses,
but kept their britches zipped up.

the clarification of water

The water's freshness
left me thinking I was new,
a reborn human
freed from my today's faults
and cleared of all my past sins.

She’s gone back to bed,
and as she sleeps, a dark ooze
from the faucet seeps.

It climbs the sink and
drops to the rug. Then it crawls,
a deadly, fanged slug.

The dark, hairy and
deadly fanged slug crawled its way
outside, waiting with
bated breath for the man who
mows his lawn in broad daylight.

deep, plush, green, shade-flecked expanse
of St. Augustine!
