M | 11617 comments Let us read today
from Exodus: “Whoso hast
fled the restaurant?

“Such beauty doth make
slaves of us, doth lure with the
fleshly things we want.”

Inwardly quaking,
the congregation, their eyes,
wide, fixed on the front,

wild with desire for
revelation, sold their souls
to Emily Blunt!

message 3052: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol! The Obsession of M with Emily Blunt.

Do not put the name
of Emily Blunt in vain.
Or you'll be cursed, M.

message 3053: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Leslie, how are you doing this evening?

message 3054: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments I am, to quote M, 'howlin'!' These are hilarious!

message 3055: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments So funny! I've really enjoyed this latest turn of direction and all the witty writing.

M wrote: "Leslie, how are you doing this evening?"

It's six am and I'm already laughing. Husband is also having a fun time with all these haiku, I keep him posted :) I don't feel sluggish today, yey!

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening to the captain, the pirates, the mice, mermaids and mermen and Emily Blunt :)

message 3057: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments It’s been awhile since Emily showed up in the haiku thread. It was last November, when she starred with Count Orlok on the little stage in the ship’s tavern.

Ajay wrote: “I changed my mind. I ‘love’ Emily Blunt!”

Oh, yes! She’s the meaning of life.

“Are you still alive?”
“Yes.”
“How can you tell?”
“Because I crave Emily Blunt.”

message 3058: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol I haven't reached that part of the thread yet.

Have you written a script about her?

The popcorn and know your character threads are also hilarious :)

message 3059: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Leslie, are you going to jump into popcorn?! That would be great! I've been a bit remiss, lately, but it is time. I started some earlier. I hope to finish it tonight.

And I wonder if Emily's read of her effect in our little pirate ship?! What a funny thought!

message 3060: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll try to jump in it, yay. A question though, does the character have to be in my work, or I can create a new one just for the thread?

I hope when Emily finds out how M is craving for her, I hope she'll look for him in Texas :D

Good evening Guy :)

message 3061: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Most of the characters in the installments I’ve posted in the Get to Know Your Character thread were characters I created for that thread: the mice, for instance, and all the characters in the Orchard Bay story, except for Spades. Alex uses characters from her stories. You should do whatever you feel like.

message 3062: by [deleted user] (new)

I see. I'll try later. I'm nervous! lol

message 3063: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Nervous is the last thing you should be, believe me!

message 3064: by [deleted user] (new)

It feels like I'm going up the stage to give a monologue :)

Thanks, M.

message 3065: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments Leslie takes the stage,
every muscle a-quaking.
Using an old trick
she relaxes. Embarrassed
pirates shiver in the breeze.

message 3066: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Excellent, Ryan!

message 3067: by [deleted user] (new)

She faced the crowd with
abashed fervor, then she asked,
"Can I sing instead?"

Yay, thanks, Ryan :) I went back reading the previous haiku entries to learn more about M's obsession with Emily Blunt.

message 3068: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Hello Leslie! My popcorn people like Al's began elsewhere, but typical WSS, it's a creative free-for-all.

With hisses and boos
the crew expressed their desire
to see her go write,
to take up her pen with mirth
and thereby give popcorn birth.

message 3069: by [deleted user] (last edited May 19, 2013 11:23PM) (new)

You guys...you're all going to kill me XD Thank you for the nudge and the shove :)

Her mind spun a tale
to weave, there was no time to
waste. To play with words
is fun in a pirates' ship,
it's completely worth the trip.

Okay, enough about me haha let's go back to Emily :D

message 3070: by M (last edited May 20, 2013 06:45AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments Actually, the only thing I’ve seen Emily Blunt in is The Devil Wears Prada, and it wasn’t a movie I liked.

The ship sliced waves quick-
silvered by a flower moon
engraved by the wind.

message 3071: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm, but you still like her even if she had a runny nose? :D true like?

A glaring sky or
perilous waves, not a threat
for a sturdy oar.

message 3072: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I’d take (in their day) Suzanne Pleshette or Diana Muldaur over Emily Blunt. I won’t even mention Julianne Moore. Holy smoke! Julianne. I’d better go get in a cold shower.

On a moonless night,
by creaking rowboat, came the
strange-eyed Count Oarlock,

the loathed, the vilest
screen writer afloat, bringing
notebooks full of schlock.

message 3073: by [deleted user] (last edited May 20, 2013 05:37AM) (new)

Go, take a shower, quick! Hahaha

Oh my, M!lol You..I can't think of words for you, I don't even know how to follow your haiku.

message 3074: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Those who follow do so at their own risk. My verses usually lead to disreputable places.

message 3075: by [deleted user] (new)

I know!! I've seen the previous haiku and though it made me laugh, I don't think I have the mind to do it, especially when I'm trying to get some sleep lol

message 3076: by [deleted user] (new)

As he docked ashore,
all he could think of was how
to date Julianne Moore.

message 3077: by M (last edited May 20, 2013 04:49PM) (new)

M | 11617 comments The wind made dry sounds
in the palms, as it had since
the world had begun,

as fronds’ shadows, in
the gusts and calms, were cast by
a foundering sun.

She seemed to call with
deepening blue, flickerings
the shadowy bay,

where, spars jauntily,
darkly askew, the pirate
ship at anchor lay.

At the after rail,
all was still, though small, unseen
figures went and came.

Earl watched the sunset.
“You said it, Phil. Such beauty
defies any name.”

message 3078: by [deleted user] (new)

M, this is a pitiful continuation of your wonderful and inspiring haiku :)

Orange and yellow
hues, the sun in its farewell-
a beauty to catch.

The green beneath the
blue, with the waves in between-
a thing of beauty.

Thousands of shiny
Silver stretched across the sky-
beauty recognized.

Her smile touched her eyes,
the color of emerald-
a beauty, indeed.

message 3079: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Leslie, this is very nice! It makes me wish I were on an island, sitting under a palm tree, in an exceedingly comfortable chair, watching the sun set, and drinking a pina colada.

message 3080: by [deleted user] (new)

and the best of it all, is the pina colada? :D

Thanks, M! :) Good morning, good afternoon and good evening!

message 3081: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 5334 comments M and Leslie, these are stunning! Some imaginative and beautiful images. Perfect start to my day, thank you :)

message 3082: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Ryan, thank you :) Have a nice day!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4490 comments Sun paints the sky
waking a pouring blue day
red, orange, burning

then leaves a violet--
after artist goes it has
brothers sear the sky.

message 3084: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4490 comments I love yours Leslie. It is not even close to pitiful in the least sense.

message 3085: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you CJ :) It's an effort to write a poem than a story, for me, while it seems an effortless thing to do for all of you..It's inspiring :D

message 3086: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Effortless?! I missed my turn to Chili’s because I was trying to write that thing in my head.

message 3087: by [deleted user] (new)

Aww, you missed your turn because of Julianne Moore. Now I know when your birthday is :P

message 3088: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments It doesn’t matter what’s on the menu at Chili’s. What could be more delicious than Julianne Moore?

message 3089: by [deleted user] (new)

Blueberry cheesecake and green tea frap :P

message 3090: by [deleted user] (new)

Brilliant, Belly! Lol

message 3091: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments She did know! Belly, it’s amazing you could have guessed that.

message 3092: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments LOL. You guys are so silly.

message 3093: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I dreamed I lost my
silliness and had become
a valiant knight.

Then I awoke, my
house a mess, my eyes stung
by the morning light.

message 3094: by [deleted user] (new)

I sat on the couch,
thinking where to start cleaning.
My stomach grumbled.

I rummaged for food,
but there was none, only a
mountain-pile of bills.

message 3095: by M (last edited May 21, 2013 11:00AM) (new)

M | 11617 comments I heard a clay pipe’s
far ditty. My coffeecup
became a flagon;

the water invoice
from the city roared, a green,
fire-breathing dragon.

Where mouldering mail
had been stacked rose a monster
from the Dark Ages.

I seized a chewed pen
and attacked, in armor made
from phone book pages.

A soft knock came at
the sliding door. It was the
neighbor’s lonesome wife.

The monsters had known
her before. Each howled in fear
and ran for his life.

She stood, seductive
in the dawn, as, smiling, she
looked me up and down:

“Dear, with that armor
you have on, I could look up
everyone in town.”

She arched an eyebrow,
tilted her head. Not wanting
to seem a bad host,

I slid open the
door and said, “Come in! I, uhm,
was just fixing toast.”

She seemed in need, and
very soon her hands found me
and I relented.

Mr. Smith came home
at noon to find her making
his lunch, contented.

message 3096: by [deleted user] (new)

Funny, M :)) I can barely imagine an armor made out of phone book pages :P

Mr. Smith noticed
his wife's goofy smile and the
way she pranced around.

He wondered if his wife
was sick; she had never
prepared lunch for him.

message 3097: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Thanks, Leslie! I don’t think I was quite awake yet when I wrote that line about the phone book pages.

Very nice continuation!

message 3098: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks, M! I didn't want to dwell on the 'relenting' part. I didn't want to give you a reason to be excited harhar

message 3099: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Mr. Smith enjoyed
his lunch so much, he hated
to quit chewing it.

He beamed. “Honey, thanks
a bunch. Whatever you’re do-
ing, keep doing it!”

message 3100: by [deleted user] (new)

Torture, M! Lol! I really can't laugh now hahaha
