Haiku
a blur of white furinvades my imagination
bleats of agony
fill my sleepy head.
I beg them to stop fighting,
I have lost control.
Hot nights they uncorkedthe wormed mescal, quoted Poe
and Aristotle,
smoked strong tobacco,
and sometimes Cal dressed up as
Quetzalcoatl.
The bottle empty, the worm arose, and dazzled
with some 'armless prose.
Before too long, Cal
started to squirm. Heading home,
said, "See you round, worm."
Cal found the house dark, the mattress firm. Bookmarked, Poe’s
“The Conqueror Worm”
lay where he’d left it
by the bed. Its lines had spun
cobwebs in his head.
In sleep he wandered
moonlit streets and went into
a pizzeria
of worn-out counters,
torn seats, and waitresses who
looked like Ligeia.
From the night’s surrealstreetscape, there came to the door
a turbaned swami,
mustard stained, who knew
the old lore of bell peppers,
leeks, and salami.
The mist around him
wore neon hues as his gaze
swept the smoky room.
A juke box mumbled
groove-gutted blues. A girl held
a dustpan and broom.
Lovely, M! :) After all these time, I still find it difficult to follow your haiku :)
So like the ladywith the mystic smile, Lisa
lurked, sfumato style.
Pressed for specifics,
she demurred, deftly leaving
their take on her blurred.
In old, varnished oils,a midday’s skies strangely light
a landscape’s boulders;
broken walls reflect
in her eyes as blue silk slides
from her pale shoulders.
No Leonardoever forgets contrails left
by Renaissance jets.
Mona slipped something
sleeveless on, boarded a plane,
and by noon was gone.
She left Lenny broke,
left no thanks, left him hungry.
He headed snackwards.
He doodled flying
machines and tanks, and started
writing things backwards.
Have I killed the thread? This one is intended to follow Nicky’s #8745:Her ample boulders,
there to be kissed, drew many
a geologist.

They seem to be getting more and more!
'7--12' she lost count
Now she's tossing and turning all about.
