Tom OBrien lives in the west of Ireland. The Curlew's Cry is his debut novel.
Raised in rural Roscommon, he grew up among the bogs, hills and small farming communities that continue to inspire his work. For him, the Irish landscape is more than a setting. It is a place where history lingers, memories endure, and long-buried secrets have a way of resurfacing.
His fiction explores the complexities of family, identity and belonging, and the enduring question of whether character is shaped more by inherited traits or by the people who nurture and influence us. He is particularly interested in how hidden truths can echo across generations, and in the ways adversity can reveal unexpected courage, resilience and strength.
