Rhaenys is my favourite conqueror I’ve been obsessed with her ever since these lines “Rhaenys surrounded herself with comely young men and (it was whispered) even entertained some in her bedchambers on the night when Aegon was with her elder sister. Yet despite these rumours, observers at court could not fail to note that the king spent 10 nights with Rhaenys for every night with Visenya.” I did like Visenya’s belligerent personality, and I have massive respect for her as a warrior, but her support of Maegor’s usurpation is when she lost me. I’m glad it was Rhaenys’ line that continued. I also adore Meraxes and it was devastating reading about her death.

I cannot wait to see the conquest on screen in 3 years…the burning of Harrenhall, surrender of the North, battle in the Stormlands, it was all so interesting to read about. My favourite moments were when a lord’s bloodline ended (eg Durrandons, Gardener) and was replaced by a new name that I’m familiar with (Baratheon, Tyrell). “When the sun sets, your line shall end.”

“The sons of the Dragon” is by far my favourite chapter so far. As a big HoTD fan (the reason I started this book), I loveee succession wars, and I loved the conflict between Aenys, Maegor and Aenys’s heirs. The very first fight of the dragons happened here, I pray it gets animated one day. Maegor’s fight with the Faith was a bit boring and confusing to read (so many names I didn’t even bother trying to remember them), reading about his 6 wives was way more entertaining (and very sad as well, those poor women).

As for Aenys’s heirs, Viserys was my favourite even though he got like 5 lines written about him in the whole book💔 I’m drawn to tragic characters.

My next fav is Rhaena, i love her timid personality as a kid (reminds me so much of Helaena no surprise they ride the same dragon), which changed after bonding with Dreamfyre and various tragedies that happened to her, making her a strong fierce woman. I also loved her twins (switching them was so clever!!) and her having female “favourites”. “The Queen found her true love on Fair Isle, not with Androw, but with his sister, Lady Elissa”. :)
Rhaena actually had a strong claim to the throne which I wish she pursued

Jaehaerys and Alysanne I’m not liking at all for now. I don’t like how disobedient they are, and I’m very curious to know how Jaehaerys will deal with the Faith after marrying his sister against their wishes. I’m on lord Rogar’s side, they should’ve made Aerea queen, yes i support usurpation when it’s against a character i dislike LOL. I think J&A will end up growing on me as there’s still so much to read about them, but that’s it for now :) ...more "
