Sion Jones is a Welsh American writer of magical realism and satire.

Born to an engineer and housewife in the Deep South, he was raised in the 1970s to read excessively.

The fact that his mother founded the local library helped.

His first published works were of poetry in 1992, and over the next decade, extended to three full-length poetry books and a novella. He began the Jakub Riser series in 2018.

Sion is also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and studied Journalism at Michigan State University.

These days, I use VR. I have an Oculus Go, and there is this neat app called Wander that will let me travel back to physical locations I have been.

Looking at the places will usually bring back a flood of memories about that place and the events that happened there, and then I can commit those things to writing.

Other than that, it is the typical sports, video, and doing something else. The classic procrastinator solution.(less)

One of the best things about being a writer is that you get to see a set of characters come to life. You feel their hopes and dreams, learn their motivations, and see entire scenes of their lives play out.

Sometimes the characters might be based on a real human you know or have seen somewhere, and then after a while, once the characters develop the differences between the two make them very separate. It can be an amazing process that unfolds.

The journey can be very fulfilling. I'm not sure how other writers are, but I have literally cried over things that my characters are going through, and some of the pains and heartaches they deal with. Other times, I have been on top of the world when everything is going right and clicking.

It is the same with many of the books by other authors that I enjoy the most, the ones that engage me and take me with the characters to wherever they are at.(less)
