Update: And Sorry About the Hiatus

The last time I published a blog post, it was the Autumn Equinox, and we here were all looking forward to the cooler weather of fall. But it seems cool quickly became cold, and now there’s a healthy layer of frost coating the back deck well into each afternoon. ❄️ 🥶

Anyway, grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and join me as I update you on the last two months—and hint at what’s to come.

I've always wanted to read Dracula, and I'm glad I did.

It's not as scary as I thought it would be, but it doesn't lack spookiness or tension throughout. There were times when it seemed like various entries (for it's written as a series of journal ent

What a wonderful compilation of essays! The wisdom within these pages is vast, and best consumed slowly. There’s a sense of nostalgia that comes from Thom’s words, but also ones of wonder and comfort. The way he writes is almost poetic, but simple, a ...more

This is the first mafia romance I’ve read, and found it quite enjoyable!

I think what I enjoyed most was the character development and banter. The leading character, Amazia, is delightfully snarky, and only grows more so as she interacts with the sup

I’m not usually a fan of rom-com books, but this was a delightful surprise!

Right off the bat we meet Cambria—a young woman who’s all grump and sarcasm, but it’s obvious there’s something darkening her soul. A few chapters later we meet Chase—her youn

Carl Sagan
“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."

[Cosmos, Part 11: The Persistence of Memory (1980)]”
Carl Sagan, Cosmos

“Every creature is better alive than dead, men and moose and pine trees, and he who understands it aright will rather preserve its life than destroy it. ”
Henry David Thoreau

“Life before Death.
Strength before Weakness.
Journey before Destination.”
Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings
