Update: And Sorry About the Hiatus

The last time I published a blog post, it was the Autumn Equinox, and we here were all looking forward to the cooler weather of fall. But it seems cool quickly became cold, and now there’s a healthy layer of frost coating the back deck well into each afternoon. ❄️ 🥶

Anyway, grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and join me as I update you on the last two months—and hint at what’s to come.

Live Long and...What I Learned Along the Way by William Shatner
"This is not a book about any specific television show which may disappoint some, and not entirely a memoir which may disappoint others. This is a recollection of stories about work, life, love, loss, and no small bit of philosophy in an attempt to an" Read more of this review »

"Delicious, especially the setting, in a gray, rainy French town by the sea in the off season, grumpy waiters and all. I also love seeing each of these two characters through the other’s eyes. It’s pleasant to spend time reading complex characters who" Read more of this review »

This was an interesting tale.

I went into it thinking there would be stronger religious undertones, but there really wasn't. So, if you're putting off reading this because of that, don't. The religion, while important, is very minor in the story itsel

This book consumed me (a bit ironic, given the plot).

I don’t even know where to begin with this review. There’s so much to say, and yet, I find myself incapable of putting into words how I feel about it. As an author myself, that’s a little unnerving

Weyward by Emilia Hart
"I have been personally victimized by a pretty cover and a cottagecore concept.

Not only does this novel contain every possible example of violence against women, it does so in incredibly banal prose. Mediocre writing strips the story of all nuance, p" Read more of this review »

A fantasy tale that has a medieval feel, with a sweet/innocent romance and lots of mystery.

I finished this first volume in about two hours, and I have so many questions. What ARE the monsters in the Black Sea? Why do the kannagi fight them, and why d

More of Sarah's books…
Carl Sagan
“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."

[Cosmos, Part 11: The Persistence of Memory (1980)]”
Carl Sagan, Cosmos

Henry David Thoreau
“Every creature is better alive than dead, men and moose and pine trees, and he who understands it aright will rather preserve its life than destroy it. ”
Henry David Thoreau

Brandon Sanderson
“Life before Death.
Strength before Weakness.
Journey before Destination.”
Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings
