The thing with solar and wind power is that I think some of the components to create solar panels and windmills are made out of plastics which are made out of oil. There is very little oil left in this world. Maybe that is why. Although that is an excellent question which hadn't occurred to me until now.

That'd be a valid way to address why they didn't have that energy tech. Just seemed weird that a world using muscle power didn't have at least some kind of jury rigged wind turbines or something.
It does seem like an oversight. They used windmills in the Netherlands a long time before there were plastics.

yeah but what about nuclear? Also, plastics can be made out of grains these days. The price of bread would go up massively if we converted completely to those kind of plastics, though.
