Dolors Timely review with the second installment coming up in the theaters. I am glad to see those five stars.

message 5: by Christina (new)

Christina I'm so happy that you gave this book 5 stars. I really do appreciate the message(s) that Collins gets across in her story, but more than that I really just love how this book makes me think about things long after I have put it down. I feel that no matter what genre, it takes real talent to do that.

message 6: by Sue Em (new)

Sue Em Great review, as usual, Will. And on a book that I have read and also gave 5 stars.

message 7: by Mary (new)

Mary Great review! I resisted these books for a long time because I read the blurb and thought, how could that be good? But they were. I'm still thinking about them a year later! I was intrigued by your reference to classical Greece and Rome - lots of food for thought in this story.

message 8: by Michael (new)

Michael A thoroughly entertaining review that helps me identify why I couldn't resist these books. So often you're out there ahead of the curve pioneering new authors and books not yet published. It's refreshing to see you don't hold anything against a book popular with the masses.

Athena Shardbearer I loved this trilogy soooo much! Katniss was the kind of girl you wanted on your side. And I love Peeta so much!

I will be getting to Mockingjay eventually. Have not yet decided whether I should wait until the next film is due out or dash in earlier.

Eww...that's a tough one. I am actually thinking of rereading it. It was by far my favorite of the three. It was horribly heart breaking but it ended the way I felt it should.

Definitely! The only question is when.

message 15: by Sidharth (new)

Sidharth Panwar Nice review, Will. Catching Fire isn't the type which I usually read but it's nice to be able to understand what it's all about.

Mohammed Arabey What A Review !
Amazing specially I loved that book ,and I really love your way to add some of -behind the scene- with the author and the book.
That's amazing man

message 19: by Steve (new)

Steve You're sizzling with this one, Will. Great summary and analysis. The extra stuff was a nice addition, too.

We saw the movie this weekend and thought the production value was top-notch. Of course, Jennifer Lawrence is always superb. It'll be interesting to see her in Serena -- another role as a strong woman, but not exactly a noble one.

message 20: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes Lady Macbeth. and I am sure she will be hot. I am a bit concerned over the absence of oscar buzz over this film. One would think, given the potential, that it would have been a strong contender. Screeners have been going out since October, and I am pretty sure this is not among them, not a good sign.

message 21: by Steve (new)

Steve According to IMDB it's scheduled for release in 2014. Maybe it can't qualify for any awards this year. Should be interesting no matter when or how highly decorated it may be.

message 22: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes I hear tell there is some trouble with finding a distributor, which sounds ominous to me, given the caliber of the cast. I know that serious movies do not have the same market appeal, but J-Law is one of the hottest stars on the planet right now. Just on that alone, the movie is likely to make back its money in two weeks. So, it makes me nervous.

This novel is where Suzanne Collins hit her stride in this story arc. The best book of the trilogy and the best of the films.

Will Byrnes Well, not every book is for every reader. What was it you did not like?

message 45: by Will (last edited Dec 06, 2020 10:21PM) (new)

Will Byrnes I will presume you did not accidentally set yourself on fire, so thanks.

message 46: by Tokoro (new)

Tokoro I had an old intellectual teacher friend a decade ago insist I would in my own intellectualism enjoy this series because of its world building dystopian conceptualisation. I think I can now see what he meant in reading your review and attaching historical myth and culture to inspiration for some of what goes on here.

message 47: by Will (new)

Will Byrnes Collins really uses classic material in building her world
