Kemper This better be an improvement over Horns.

You just gave two stars to The Shining, Mr. Dan. I still haven't decided what to do with you yet, or to ever trust your star ratings ever again!

message 4: by Dan (new)

Dan I'll try to earn your trust back.

message 5: by Kemper (new)

Kemper I agree with Trudi. Anyone who two stars The Shining is obviously wrong and has missed the point.

Hmmmph. It'll be a long hard road. Let's see what you got.

Stephanie *Eff your feelings* Are you liking it so far? I wasn't impressed with Horns either.

It's OK so far.

message 9: by Markus (new)

Markus Damn...i have to wait for the UK edition, which is coming out end of the month, because it is little bit cheaper. Haven't yet read anything bad by Joe Hill.

Stephanie *Eff your feelings* Well done sir.

message 11: by Trudi (new)

Trudi Now I'm tempted to wait for the audiobook.

Definitely waiting for the audiobook.

Jonathan Peto Did Joe marry and take someone else's name?

message 14: by Kemper (new)

Kemper There's something about Mulgrew cursing that is just awesome.

I guess he's trying not to just cash in on his dad's name, but everyone knows anyhow so he might as well just start using Joe King.

message 16: by Trudi (last edited May 14, 2013 06:57AM) (new)

Trudi His full name is Joseph Hillstrom King (named after this guy).In the beginning I can see why he wanted to try to do the writing thing on his own merits and not in Dad's long shadow. I can also see why he doesn't just change it back now to King. Joe Hill has become like his lucky pen name of a sorts, a brand name put more crudely, basically his writing alter ego.

carol. "Vic is a graduate of the Lisbeth Salander Charm School, and she’ll hit you in the face with the wrench she’s using to fix a motorcycle if you give her any grief."

I want to go to that charm school. Let me know if you find the address.

I think it's in Stockholm.

If he'd gone with Joe Blow no one would have figured it out.

message 21: by S.A. (new)

S.A. I agree. If Daddy King had written this book, he'd break the 1000 page mark.

"Vic is a graduate of the Lisbeth Salander Charm School, and she’ll hit you in the face with the wrench she’s using to fix a motorcycle if you give her any grief."

Perfect!

I don't even know how hard he tried to hide it because the first thing I heard about Heart-Shaped Box was that it was written by Stephen King's kid.

Maybe even 1500 pages....

If he wants to top Daddy, then he is going to have to start writing a whole lot more. At his age, Stephen had written like thirty bestsellers and made all of them into successful movies. Hill's got, what? Three novels and a comic book series? Never going to earn Daddy's respect at this rate.

"Hell, boy, by the time I was your age I'd written 217 books and all of them had been turned into blockbuster movies! You're a damn slacker!"

Trudi Hehe.

The King is the King for a reason. Show some respect laddies!!!

message 28: by Andrew (new)

Andrew I want to read this NOW but living in the UK means I have to wait a bit longer......I'm not happy

But, on the bright side, you have health care!

message 30: by Andrew (new)

Andrew well we have a big idea about healthcare that more often than not tends to fail

message 31: by Pat (last edited Jul 28, 2013 12:54AM) (new)

Pat C. I thought there was also an homage to the Joe Hill of "you'll get pie in the sky when you die" fame. Wobblies of the World Unite! and like that.

message 32: by Brian (new)

Brian M The villain in this sounds a lot like the villains in Doctor Sleep from your synopsis. I'll probably pick up the audible narration.

message 33: by Richard (new)

Richard Did this on audiobook too and completely agree about Kate Mulgrew. Initially I was unsure buy by the time is heard the first hour it fit perfectly.
