I disagree on two counts. Firstly, Clarke is a great writer, not just in terms of plot, but also in style and expression. I enjoy reading his books not just for his ideas, but also his artistic creativity.

Secondly, the RAMA sequels far from ruin the magic. I found them even better than 'Rendezvous', and would argue that they represent Clarke's best work. By not reading the sequels, you'd be missing out on a lot.

I also think Clarke is a great writer. But I enjoyed the rest of your review. And I'm still pondering whether I'll read the sequels or not. Probably will, because I do enjoy his writing.

Seriously... the first book was amazing... I can't believe i spent so much time of my life reading the sequels stupidly expecting it to all make sense in the end because "clarke would never do this bullshit for no reason"

EXACTLY. No need to spoon feed us all the answers. I like the mysteries at the end of Rama, and also found the sequels to detract from my enjoyment of the original. But publishing changed, and I bet they made a lot of money of them (and the 2001 sequels)
