Dan's American, but he has quite an ironic and self-deprecating sense of humour - you could watch his talk on TED, you might get a better understanding of his style. Or throw things at the screen.
Yeah, he's actually a prick in real life. I used to be a fan, but you picked up on what I never did. It's also interesting because most of the research that he thinks he's revolutionizing the world with isn't his own. He's a B-level cheerleader.
After reading other reviews to compare against my recent review of it, I felt like I was the only one. I agree, he is very cocky. I didn't like his writing style one bit; the book has the feel that he doesn't really know how to be a good writer.
There's great information in the book, although the author is a bit long-winded. I wish I could just read the cliff's notes and skip the author's Harvard wit and personality.
Uh, no. Maybe you were treated like an idiot because you are an idiot? I mean, you're clearly religious so that would go without saying. Religious people constantly whine about how everyone talks down to them or how the "elitist" media / school system is arrogant and "biased" when it's really that they are just stupid, ignorant fools that anybody with an ounce of intellect shouldn't waste time on.
Some people are more easily offended I guess. Everyone has his own style, and as long as his intention is not to offend people, why should people get so offensive?
Yes, i find him cocky too. Does not get to the point but Seems to want to show how much he knows and how he can make long sentences. Bad publisher too, in that case.
In the case of Phinneas Gage by the way he even is incomplete, as his personality changed drastically after the railway accident.
Well maybe he's not a good writer, but he certainly did his research. Let's maybe not comment too much on the writing style of a psychologist.
I couldn't finish it either and gave it two stars because of the witty writing style. I was also offended throughout the piece, partially based on his offhanded way of belittling or demeaning animals that have been proven to be intelligent and complex. And like you, I'm open minded but as I continued to read the book I just couldn't anymore.
