Sure, and since it's speculative fiction, it doesn't have to be historically true, anyway. :)
I had the same experience when trying to write that review! I started pointing out the distant tone and the lack in style and ended up giving it 4 stars because of the message (devastatingly possible??)

I look at it like dystopian novel like 1984 which could also be considered far fetched but has some basis in real regimes.
