Asha Thanks for the real review. There are mostly positive reviews of the book, because it is so famous , but the more I learn about him, the more I wonder what makes this a masterpiece. I haven't read the book, but your review closely mirrors the criticism and complaints of Washington and your perception of the man seems to be very accurate. I now know what I get when I do read it

Kevin Lopau How can Asha call this a real review if she has no context or contrast that actually reading the book would provide. It is obvious that what she has learned is that Booker T. Washington promotes helpful self motivation over harmful government assistance.

As for you, Alieda, he was silent about nothing. Just because he did not embellish or exaggerate the conditions to support your perspective on history, you call it dull. I found it to be an excellent story of his personal experiences and he did not get sidetracked with the formentioned embellishments and exaggerations. He put in the effort necessary for his success, regardless the cost. This drive is what most people today severely lack. As far as the second half of your review is concerned, funding is better spent to help others to succeed rather than apologetically support those who are lacking, unfortunate or downtrodden.
I would argue that you lack the life experience of performing hard labor as do most individuals with a liberal mindset. The optimism and determination is inspiring, or at least it should be, for anyone who understands struggle and what it means to not have the necessities in life.
I don't want to get into a rant or upset anyone, but I disagree with this review completely.
As for Asha, please at least read the book before you take sides. Be open minded and truly listen to what is being said.
Thank you.
