Well the next one has diesel-powered civil war era mech combat and battle trains.
Battle trains... makes me think of the last Mad Max movie....
Your opinion is pretty consistent with most of my friends but I still can't help but want to read it anyway!
I have also seen a bunch of 5 star reviews. Always makes me wonder if the fault lies with me.
