Rothlind Thanks for taking the time to summarize with such care. This is a hugely important book you obviously read attentively. I'm going back to try to understand MacIntyre's criticism of Aristotle's "metaphysical biology."

One glaring omission from MacIntyre's work is a discussion of Hegel--who had his own criticisms of Kantian morals and emphasized the imporance of Sittlichkeit and the social dimension of morality in exactly the way MacIntyre has. Also, Kant's idea of a duty to oneself gets short shrift.

Thanks again, David.

message 8: by Victor (new)

Victor M A good short summary, but without reviewer's subjective opinion I can't see why he gave four stars out of five.
