I'll be interested in seeing what you think of this one. It looked like it could be good.
I was so tempted to buy this book yesterday but I didn't want to pay $30 for it and now I don't have to :)
Wow, I'm actually surprised you liked Across the Universe! I hated that book and didn't think I'd ever pick up anything by the author again. This definitely didn't convince me to give her another chance...oh well
Oh nooooo! Here goes one of my most anticipated novel :( As you, I really liked Across the Universe and I've been wanting to read more from her since then... Sigh. Everything you point looks like something that would annoy me (I had some of the same problems with The Killer in Me - mostly in the "waiting for the MC to figure it out" part, which was also a book I grandly awaited :() Oh well. Great review!

Oh crap - I missed your review of that one! Too bad because, like this, it sounded so good :(

Yeah :( It wasn't bad per se, but I was expecting something more... confusing? I don't know, I just hate it when the MC is confused and I'm like, REALLY?! It's obvious! >.<
I'm glad to see I didn't miss out when I couldn't finish this one. It just wasn't hooking me or holding my interest at all.
I'm so bummed!!! I was SOO looking forward to this!! I'm like you & really enjoyed Across the Universe. Thanks for the review :)
Great review Em. It's a little disappointing because this is one of the books I am really looking forward to this year.
Great review, though this I don't think the book is an accurate portrayal of psychosis because the thinking is way too detailed and organized and follows too logical an illogical path. I agree with you about the fear and the dogged belief in the reality of the hallucinations, that part felt more authentic. I'm disappointed in the mental illness as a plot device aspect.
Unlike you, I did like Phoebe's chapters because I thought they gave a realistic look at the impact of having a mentally ill sibling, the ambivalence and the resentment she knew was wrong. I thought she gave balance to Bo's unreliable narration. Yeah, she was kind of bland, but I took that as she was more Any Sibling than Phoebe the Character with Her Own Story, if that makes sense.
So glad to see another review I agree with. I actually didn't finish the book because of this. I think I stopped at chapter 15. I just couldn't.
You killed this book. Slaughtered it lol 😂 I haven't read it yet, but my friend agrees. I'll still read it to join the party tho
If were to write my review, it would be exactly like this one. Thank you for writing the words right out of my disappointed brain!!
I see you published this review before what Goodreads says the actual publication date is. Was this an ARC? Did you go back and read a finalized copy since? Any changes/improvements?

Yes, it was an ARC. I haven't read the final published copy, though.
This is a really interesting review. I personally liked the book a lot, but I can definitely see your qualms with it. A World Without You hooked me in immediately and kept my attention, but to each their own.

Thank you so much for the review Em! I'll be taking this one off my TBR, because "Life is too short to read bad books" which is why I always like to read your reviews first. ;)
