Buddhism is not a religion.
You were more accurate when you called it a philosophy. It's the version of Hinduism, basically, without all the gods. Just a matter of making humans less selfish, reducing life to its bare essentials, which is why a perfect Buddhist has perfect detachment from the world.

I am familiar with the argument. For me, Buddhism is a philosophy. For plenty of people who call themselves Buddhists, it's undeniably a religion.
I think I share a very similar viewpoint to your own about religion. I did some reading on Buddhism, several years ago, which left me with a far higher opinion on its doctrine/philosophy than that of other world religions. Your review has sparked an interest in me for trying out meditation for myself, by a happy coincidence a new beginners class is due to start up in my area so I'm going to check it out. Thanks for the review Stephanie.
