This could be avoided by radiating the meat yielding no residual radiation and killing all salmonella and other nasties, but the country is so scared of it it hasn't happened.

At the spice plant we had to keep radiated spices separate from other spices, but Garlic, which is the most contaminated spice with say 50,000 whatever's per whatever could have zero with proper irradiation and with no harmful effects. That's a Big 10 Duh!

The chicken thing totally got me, too. One of the most disgusting things ever. I work with this guy who is a total germophobe, but he eats meat religiously. I haven't had the heart to point out the problem there to him. He's harassed me a lot about being a vegetarian, but I always just think of the chicken thing. I'm no germophobe, but that's nasty.
