If you like alpha males you should try historical romance novels which usually feature a protagonist that fits this type. I especially enjoy highlander/Scotland historical romance novels as those usually have some of the most rugged alpha males who are fierce fighters.
Suzanne Brockmann writes in the same genre as Lora Leigh and Maya Banks (contemporary romantic suspense/thriller/action) and has at least one series that features heroes who serve or have served in the military. The series is called Troubleshooters. Her latest, "Do or Die," is the beginning of a similar series, I think.
