April I'll be following along on this topic...It's so hard to find a main character out of high school...funny...cause I think the 30/40 yo crowd would be affected too! :)LOL...Hope you get some good recs for me to check out too! :)

Meghan I saw that someone recommended The Passage. I also really enjoyed it!

message 3: by Kelly (new)

Kelly The Passage is a great book and it's definitely more adult-oriented dystopia!

Melissa I adored Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. The companion The Year of the Flood is pretty good. Her latest of the trilogy Madd Addam was not as good IMO. Definitely read O&C

Melissa Oh ALSO .... if you haven't read The Dog Stars by Peter Heller you must go and read it RIGHT AWAY...soooooo good.

message 6: by Melissa (new)

Melissa The Road by Cormac McCarthy is good but a pretty big downer overall.

message 7: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hi Crystal. A couple years ago I went on a hunt for the same thing. World Made By Hand by James Howard Kunstler is a distopian adult fiction book I really enjoyed. I'm going to send you a few more recommendations too :)

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura Agnella I just finished The Hallowed Ones. It is listed as YA however, I felt it was more adult themed. It does have "creatures" in but has a dystopia theme set in an Amish community. I liked it.

message 9: by Tara (new)

Tara The Passage and The Twelve were both pretty good. The Twelve was a little disjointed I think -- probably trying to set up for the third book - - but still good.

Amanda K The Children of Men by P.D. James

message 11: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Schor Wool by Hugh Howley and the entire Wool Omnibus

message 12: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Schor Oh yeah, and The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood.

message 13: by Lupe (new)

Lupe Dominguez You should check out the group Apocalypse Whenever...we usually are able to steer clear of YA dystopia.

message 14: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Turner Have you considered Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Not truly dystopian, but it has the feel, and the adult characters.

message 15: by Liza (new)

Liza Fireman How about "1984", "We", "Brave New World"?

message 16: by Tara (new)

Tara Have you read the Lunar series yet?? (Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, etc.?) I'm really enjoying them. Also, The Library at Mount Char, and the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde is a very fun read.
