The Westing Game?
Actually, a great YA/MG fantasy mystery hybrid that I read recently was Poison by Bridget Zinn. It was stinking cute and the heroine is trying to discover who framed her for murder. I totally got sucked in by the red herring element. Another mystery story is Star Crossed by Elizabeth Bunce, although I would say that the fantasy elements are stronger then the mystery elements.
In case your wondering I get really, really excited whenever anyone actually *asks* for recommendations. I love giving them! I should have been a librarian.
Ha ha - I'm glad you like giving recommendations. I'm writing a book right now that has a strong mystery/suspense element to it, and since I don't typically read mysteries, I figured I should do some research as to what works and what doesn't. :) So thank you both for the recommendations - can't wait to start reading them!
I recommend Tamara Hart Heiner for mystery. Josi Kilpack has some cute ones too. I love the fantasy books that have a bit of mystery in the plot as well. Also I highly, highly recommend The Ascendance Trilogy by Jennifer A. Nielsen. Also, if you like historical fiction (fairy tales retold as historical), I just finished a couple of books by the christian author Melanie Dickerson that I thoroughly enjoyed. Okay, so they weren't all mystery, but these were my favorite reads this year.
