I can pretty much only think of How I live now by Meg Rosoff, but you've probably already read that. Sorry, let me know if you find any because i've been wanting to read stand-alones too
I have not Lauryn, I've never heard of it!! Is it any good? and Sorry Irene I only just saw this, I might look into How I Live Now. I got recommended Ready Player One and it was quite good and there's a movie soon so it'll be good to read it :)
Well bloody and brutal doesn;t bother me so you've sold me! I'm going to find it on here, check my library and if not I'll get it for my birthday since it's in 10 days!
Thanks!!! and I have read The Graveyard Book and his Trigger Warnings short stories. I enjoyed the graveyard book but didnt like his short stories. I am going to start American Gods soon though I am borrowing it from a friend!
Neal Shusterman has quite a few standalone novels, I think. Downsiders, something like the Schwa Was Here -not what I'm recommending now- I can't remember many others at the moment... but he has 2 others, both the firsts in a series that I am unconvinced were truly intended to be drawn out. both are obviously related to mortality and death, although in very different ways. Everlost is perhaps the more adolescent of the two but its dearer to my heart than Unwind, which is a tad more sinister. lots of adventure, the stories are very well wrapped up by the end + I personally don't feel any need to read the sequels. it seems as if they might ruin the wonder from the first ones to continue on.
