Diana Louise Penny does a lovely job in creating a setting. You might like CROSSING PLACES by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway series), which features a forensic anthropologist who lives in the marshlands in England. Other books with a great sense of place: KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES by Jussi Adler-Olsen, SNOW WHITE MUST DIE by Nele Neuhaus, THE HOUSE ON TRADD STREET by Karen White.

Karen Walsh Yes just read her Beastly Things. I was quite good. I will have to get the proper order of the series.
