Louise Penny does a lovely job in creating a setting. You might like CROSSING PLACES by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway series), which features a forensic anthropologist who lives in the marshlands in England. Other books with a great sense of place: KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES by Jussi Adler-Olsen, SNOW WHITE MUST DIE by Nele Neuhaus, THE HOUSE ON TRADD STREET by Karen White.
Actually I just found her. Finished the Janus Stone and now reading the House at Sea's End. Thanks so much.
Her newest one just came out this month...OUTCAST DEAD. I'm glad you're enjoying the series. dsd
Also...you might like the books by Donna Leon. They're set in Venice.
Yes just read her Beastly Things. I was quite good. I will have to get the proper order of the series.
