Thanks for the suggestions, Caroline! I haven't read Rebecca, but I have read Jane Eyre, which I loved. I haven't read Philipp Meyer, but I just noticed Son on several best of lists for 2013, so I'll give that one a look. Thanks again! The post-novel depression is a real thing...

I hear ya. I read East of Eden too, and I just adore Steinbeck. Because you loved Jane Eyre, definitely give Rebecca a shot. They both have that gothic, mysterious quality, although I think JE is the better of the two.
