“Don’t walk in front of me… I may not follow
Don’t walk behind me… I may not lead
Walk beside me… just be my friend”
    Albert Camus

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”
    Bob Marley

    J.R.R. Tolkien
“All that is gold does not glitter,
    Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
    A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

    Stacia Stark
“How do you control a population? You keep the people poor and uneducated. Tell them the same lie for centuries, and tie that lie to religion. Those people will believe you even when the truth is dancing naked in front of them. Because to believe otherwise would mean their entire world has always been a lie. And that realization is too difficult for most people to take.”
Stacia Stark, A Court This Cruel & Lovely

“And I did understand. Many people used faith to cope with the worst parts of their lives. As something greater than themselves to turn to when they had lost their way. But some people used it to justify why others had less than they did–and why they were deserving of more.”
Stacia Stark, A Court This Cruel & Lovely

    Carissa Broadbent
“I was too young to know the truth then. That victory meant another’s defeat, and sometimes our own defeat. That winning meant sacrifices, and sometimes ones that even our own people were not willing to make. That in war, someone always paid.”
Carissa Broadbent, Daughter of No Worlds

“It was amazing, the mental somersaults minds and hearts could do to justify their actions in the name of love.”

“I wanted to memorize every sound she made, every expression, every freckle or mole, like I was a cartographer tattooing a map of her onto my soul.”

“Sometimes, you need to act on nothing but gut feeling. And sometimes, no matter what you do, you lose the battle. Healing is more difficult than killing in every way. But that’s how it always is. I’ve walked both roads. Destroying is easy. Creating is hard.”
Carissa Broadbent, Children of Fallen Gods

“I had spent my entire life being ripped from what I loved. My heart never could grow roots, because every few years they would be hacked away. You learn to live without them. You learn to find love where it doesn’t exist, like in the superficial kindnesses of a cruel man. You learn to accept the loss as a part of you, and pretend you don’t mourn every severed connection. I had forgotten that it was possible for the roots of someone’s affection to run so deep, so solid. I could build a life in the branches of this tree. I could cradle a generation’s future nestled in its leaves. But I still had so many scars. And it’s hard to dream when you’re surrounded by the ashes of loss. Hard not to wonder if whatever scraps you have left over are even worth offering someone who deserves so much.”
Carissa Broadbent, Children of Fallen Gods

“I brushed its petals and thought of what Ishqa had said of the people here — that they were born already dying. The blossom would be gone tomorrow. But did that make it any less beautiful?”
Carissa Broadbent, Children of Fallen Gods

“The room was empty, the covers on the bed crumpled as they had been this morning. Even without Caduan, I felt better here—less alone, comforted by even the ghost of his presence.”

“Why couldn’t we all stop trying to put our own fears and beliefs on everyone else and just live our lives? Who are you to say this man, who had no control over the fae blood running in his veins, was less than you? Worthy of being murdered because he was different?”
    Stacey Marie Brown, Dead Lands

“Living in this mixed pot of people, you saw every single being had a life, feelings, family, friends, hopes, and dreams. We weren’t different at all; circumstances made our goals on how to achieve those things different. The anger toward each other, the drive to eradicate someone else hoping it would ease your life and burdens... .it was disgusting and totally wrong. It only made life that much tougher for all. Heavy, insufferable, and dark.”
    Stacey Marie Brown, Dead Lands

“In my life, I realized words could be twisted, used as lies, trickery, and bait. A person’s true character was in their actions, the truth spoken through doing, not saying”
    Stacey Marie Brown, Blood Lands

“Because fear is the best way to control people. To have them surrender to what is happening and not fight back.”
    Stacey Marie Brown, Shadow Lands

“A mother was supposed to go to the temple after the death of a child. She was supposed to speak to the spirits of the Dead until she had said all she needed to say to the child, until all her unresolved feelings were spent, all conflicts resolved, all grudges laid to rest, until the finawu were satisfied that the deceased could move on in peace.”
M.L. Wang, The Sword of Kaigen

“I’d like to toss the purebloods who oversaw this place in the lake. A bunch of thieves and thugs—stealing jewelry, harassing women, beating the men who talked back.”

    Stacia Stark
“I’d been certain that love was being willing to give someone up if that was what was best for them. But I was wrong. Love was being willing to fight. It was being willing to stand up and say, It’s you and me, we’re in this together, and gods help anyone who attempts to tear us apart.”
Stacia Stark, A Crown This Cold and Heavy

    Stacia Stark
“My father once told me that when someone is haunted by guilt, nothing anyone else can do or say will scrub that ache from their soul. They have to plunge into that guilt, sink down in it, let it gnaw at their very core. When they finally rise, they’ll either emerge cleansed, having faced and conquered that guilt, or they’ll remain forever shackled by it.”
Stacia Stark, A Crown This Cold and Heavy

    Stacia Stark
“It was ironic, really—the experiences that came the closest to breaking you were the same experiences that built you into someone new. Surviving one experience meant you were more likely to survive the next. And so it continued, life unfurling in a tapestry of trials.”
Stacia Stark, A Crown This Cold and Heavy

    S.A. Chakraborty
“You know, for all the lecturing I’ve heard about how emotional women supposedly are, we have nothing on the men I’ve known.”

    Sarah J. Maas
“You are a true mother,” he said, and grabbed her hand, turning her to face him. “Lidia, you made an impossible choice—you decided to protect your children, even if it meant you wouldn’t see them grow up. Fuck, if that doesn’t make you a true mother, then I don’t know what does.” Pain rippled across her face, and he wrapped his arms around her as she leaned against his chest. “They were the one thing that kept me going,” she said. “Through every horror, it was just knowing that they were there, and safe, and that my choices were keeping them that way.”
Sarah J. Maas, House of Flame and Shadow
