That’s such an intriguing question. For me, the mystery would be this: Did my retirement break an oath, or fulfill one I didn’t know I’d made? When I stepped away from teaching, it felt less like an ending and more like crossing a misted threshold, one that made me ask whether I’d walked away out of fear or out of faith in what was next. I think the story of uncovering that truth, of finding meaning again through myth and storytelling, is the book I ended up writing.
