Chuck Mallory asked Roman Schreiber:

What inspired "Dark Sky Full of Stars"? Just saw it on my ARC service

Roman Schreiber A lot of things, but mainly I wrote it for a friend during a difficult time. I was talking to this friend about dark romance, and tropes of possessiveness, as she particularly liked the love interest to say "touch her and you die" and "you're MINE" and it got me daydreaming for weeks, thinking of ways to subvert those phrases. I was also inspired by getting stuck on the viewing balcony in the State Library of Victoria, a visit to Sydney and Katoomba, the play Twelfth Night, a YouTube short about limerence, ideas about near-death experience me comparing that to dissociative disorder. It all sort of came together like that. When I picked up a mafia romance to read last year I realized that none of it was grounded in any possible reality... and I knew that because as a troubled youth I also did once date a young man who was about 18 years old with smoky eyes and curly hair and in proximity to Eastern European organized crime, and at the very least I could write something a little more authentic, and based on my own observations. There is a scene in the book that takes place in the Blue Mountains, and while it's probably the wildest scene, it's the truest slice-of-life in the whole book.
Thank you for asking and I hope you read it. I have written three sequels so far and I am so excited about where the series is going! :)
