David Merrill I've had War With The Newts on my to read list for about 30 years. I've owned an old copy of it that long and decided to get the newer translation pictured. I discovered the publisher is about 15 miles from me! They also have translations of a bunch of his other works.

Jo I hope after 30 years it will be worth the wait! I bought it a few months ago. In the UK it is part of the SF Masterwork series and also includes R.U.R.. According to the introduction R.U.R first introduced the word Robot which can only be a good thing.

David Merrill R.U.R. is what brought Capek to my attention. Since I'm primarily a novel reader, War With The Newts was what I focused on getting. I have R.U.R. too.

I decided to get a head start on War With The Newts. Other than the prejudicial emphasis from the protagonist, which is rather jarring, it looks to be quite good.

David Merrill I should mention, for those who intend buying a paper copy of War with the Newts, Catbird Press has a buy one get one half price deal on their website. They have a number of other Capek translations to choose from.
