We probably all agree that the degree of force and intimidation used by the Capitol in The Hunger Games was excessive. But how much power should government have to maintain stability in society, to protect itself and its citizens from insurrection and violence?

Stability and safety is important, but the government should do the minimum to maintain it. Gun laws stink. The NSA is an unwarranted encroachment on privacy. Police are cool, but they should only be used to stop acts of violence.

Stability and safety is important, but there should be limits to what the government can do to ensure it. You don’t love “Stop and Frisk”, the TSA, and gun laws, but you support a vigilant and active police force, moderate gun laws, and some NSA activity to prevent terrorism

Government is the greatest threat to stability and safety in society. It should not have the power to use any force whatsoever to maintain stability in society. If not abolished altogether, government should be stripped of all abilities to use force on its citizens.

Stability and Safety are secondary concerns, whereas the protection of citizens' rights should be the primary function of government. I support giving government the authority to protect the citizens' rights, while separating the government's power and making sure that the citizens have a good amount of influence over the political system in their region. Stability and safety is a high priority of government, even if it means some preemptive force. You support “Stop and Frisk”, TSA Scanners, and strict gun laws. The NSA has the right to view the content of our emails and phone records to prevent terrorism.

Kate I voted for #3, although I am probably somewhere between 2 and 3. I don't mind a vigilant and active police force IF it is merely local. It's the large state-sponsored activity that scares me.

Brandon Head I would have to say 3 was definitely my choice. There should be a balance and government should not have an overwhelming amount of power I believe. The videos gave great insight for me for this. Love the author of the book Rise of The Warrior Cop.

Kate I don't love any of these options. I'm a mix on the collection of issues presented. I have no love for TSA or the NSA, and I believe police brutality is a very concerning issue. BUT I support strong gun control laws. I've seen how well they work living in a country that has them and yet also still maintains a high level of personal liberty.

Justin Sprueill May I just say, that only at learn liberty would there be an option that I agree with as a Voluntaryist. You guys rock here.

(obviously I voted Gov. is a threat)

Jack G I'm closer to being between 3 and 4, but I understand that government does need some power or else it is useless. Government is definitely WAY too powerful nowadays though.
EDIT: Ha, nobody voted for the insane super-powerful government one.

Tate I'm with Robert Higgs in considering the state too dangerous to tolerate. Any entity that has enough power to overpower common criminals also has the power to be the worst of criminals (and typically becomes so).
