I'd like to vote for Minutes Before Sunset by Shannon A Thompson, which is an awesome read.

I'm voting for Secrets in the Shallows. Karen is an excellent author and I love her books.

I've never read any of these so I'm not going to vote.

Is someone someone creating profiles just to vote? Look how many have 0 friends and 0 books all in a row and are all voting for the same book. Just looks strange to me with 6 in a row

I agree, it does seem a little fishy. I'm not sure if GR could control someone creating multiple profiles.

Karen & I have done a tremendous amount of promotion for our book, so it really frustrates me if someone is cheating just to win. That's not right.

I completely agree. Cheating would only hurt their image and reputation. Promoting one's book by word of mouth is the most effective way of promotion!

I am the author of "Minutes Before Sunset" and I feel the same way about the "fake" profiles, but I also have done a lot of promotion for my novel. I have a website ShannonAThompson.com, and I can personally promise that those who have voted for me (if they have 0 books and 0 friends) have come from there and have read my book and support it. But if Goodreads wants to count those as fake, I completely understand, but they need to do that for every book. I also think it's important to consider Facebook also allows people to vote through there which often causes 0 books and 0 friends. Those who've voted for me are followers I know are real people, and I can supply their personal websites if need be. Aside from all of the votes, I think all of these novels look fantastic. I think it's really great, for instance, that "How to be a Goddess" is written by someone young and talented. I have also messaged Tana asking if there is anything I (and everyone else) can do in order to resolve this issue.

Name's Raul Diaz. I first heard of minutes before sunset while serving in the military. I really enjoyed the book, it brought a lot of good emotions to the table. Other than a few word errors, I loved it. I heard about the contest on shannonathompson.com (a website I highly recommend) a couple days ago. So of course I voted for the book. Sorry I had to sign up for good read and don't really no anybody to add as a friend or whatever else you do, I just use it to figure out when books are going up come out and summaries.

Hi, I voted for Minutes Before Sunset and I'm a real person :) I have a website if there are any doubts: www.1writeway.com. I know Shannon has been working hard to promote her book, using her blog, Facebook, and Twitter. As others have noted, you have to sign up for Goodreads in order to vote, and some voters may just not be interested (or have the time at the moment) to set up a complete profile. I imagine that each of these "incomplete" profiles has a valid and distinct email address; otherwise their membership would not be accepted. I suppose Goodreads could force new members to add friends or books in order to participate. I just hope that Goodreads doesn't start arbitrarily interfering with members' reviews and votes like Amazon has.

I am also working hard to promote the Sword of Wisimir. None of the people voting for me are fake. The fact that they have joined Goodreads and Making Connections because of the nomination is surely a good thing for the group. Good luck to all the writers.

Good comment. I was thinking the same thing - that promotions like this are a great way to attract new users to the site and to supporting these authors. Though I suppose a good scandal could have the same effect.

P.s. I am real. If anyone has a different perspective on the matter, please call and tell my mother. All I ask is that you break it to her gently.

thanks everyone for voting in our polls, and no one is cheating like a few have mentioned yes people are joining the group and voting which has increased our membership and new members may also find a book in the group to read. This is meant to be fun and help authors get some free promotion. I will say that I noticed last month the very same thing happened and no one complained. I do believe its because of authors fans and facebook members are coming online to vote. By no means is this a bad thing.

I've noticed an increase in members that are also do to the nominations threads, fans are joining to nominate or second and third authors books. So over all I think our Book of The Month threads have increased our membership.

So if you were allowing this to happen in the nomination and now the polls we all need to think of it as a increase in our membership which may lead to more books being read and reviewed. Also some new authors have joined us. So all in all great work everyone.

Next month polls will be hidden. And please be careful on what you write as some could take it the wrong way and feel like they are being accused of wrong doing.

it is a great way to find new authors and some great books Kari.

I think all authors are working hard to promote their books. Getting new members helps us all as they are then exposed to all of us.

I'm very relieved to know that everyone is doing what they can to promote their books. I did not want to point any fingers, but it just did seem a little strange to have so many with the 0 friends and 0 books all in a row. I want this to be a legitimate competition and, if our book "The Secrets in the Shallows" wins, then that's awesome and I would know it was earned. If we don't win, at least I will know that it's up against other very popular books that I need to check out. I have never wanted any competition handed to me, much less try to steal it by cheating, but I do enjoy the challenge of winning in a friendly competition. Thank everyone for being so respectful of everyone and clarifying that issue.

I just voted for Minutes Before Sunset. I heard about Shannon Thompson, a local author, and decided to read the book. It is thoughtful and artfully written. I look forward to more books from this author.
