Maria Mod
Gatsby is one of my favorite books because one of my favorite plot devices is to have a narrator at a slight remove from the story tell it and reflect on it. All the King’s Men is another of my all time favorites for that reason.
So basically, the reason I love Gatsby so much is really because I love Nick, and it looks like the movie has made a mess of him and his role. Judging from the previews it is some sort of intense bromance that drives Nick into a rehab center!
However, the movie looks really aesthetically fun nonetheless, so I'll probably see it just to look at the clothes and enjoy the scenery and soundtrack.

Lizzie I agree! Gatsby is one my favorite because it really helped me learn how to do close reading (and re-reading) to understand metaphor and theme. I think the movie will take a lot of artistic liberties and I like Baz Luhrmann's style enough to see it even if it doesn't totally gel with the orginal text or my first expierence. I didn't have time to reread it fully but NEA's Big Read guide was helpful http://www.neabigread.org/books/great...

Sonali Yes, I will definitely see it but not in the theatre. I love love Baz Luhrman but hate 3D! It's already on my Netflix dvd queue.

Tony My real vote is for "Not in Theater but Will put in DVD/Streaming Queue"

Can we also have an option: "Have children, therefore never see movies in the theater any more."?

Jo Stallworth This is also one of my all time favorite books and (so far)there is only one film version that I remotely enjoy. I think DiCaprio is too old to play Gatsby, but I am curious to see how the role of Daisy is played.

I second your aesthetically pleasing remark, Maria. I was never quite able to wrap my head around the book's use of metaphor and whatnot. I goto the movies A LOT and I have seen the Gatsby Trailer a GAZILLION times. I feel like I've all ready seen the movie but I will go see it this weekend just for the clothes and pretty cars!
