I wondered if member participation would create more activity in the Group Book Read threads - a range of members with varying areas of interest would almost certainly result in some surprising reads.

So the question is: would you be interested in choosing either one or both of the Group Book Reads, committing to read your chosen book/s and leading the discussion/s? (One two-month period would be all you'd sign up for at a time.)

Old-Barbarossa Tend to have my own reading schedule and would only read a text if it coincided with stuff I was wallowing in anyway...I wouldn't presume to foist my sinister choices on anyone else...I would however comment on any books I had read previously.

message 2: by Sara (new)

Sara Hi Nell, as I mentioned in the discussion, I'd be willing to select a book and lead the discussion for the two month period. I would most likely choose only non-fiction, since that's mostly what I read. I'm happy to help the group in this way.

message 3: by Ancestral (new)

Ancestral Gaidheal Having attempted to choose a broad range of books in the past, I think I will leave it to others. I, too, have my own reading schedule with 200+ books left to read. If the group read co-incides I'll chime in.

message 4: by Nell (new)

Nell Grey Thanks for the input, all. A little later I'll start a new thread for offers and book suggestions so we have a selection of books from those who are willing to take part.

Old-Barbarossa, sinister might make an interesting change, and foisting as such tends not work anyway, Read What Thou Wilt being the Hole (we all tumble joyfully into) etc.

Sara, thanks muchly for the offer. I saw your latest post in the other thread and suggested you could PM me if/when you make a choice - then I can add the book for the June/July reading period. Alternatively you could add your choice to the thread mentioned above when it appears.

Ancestral, that's some reading schedule...

message 5: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Veritas I look forward to this kind of interaction, but life's schedule does not allow for it just now.

Bryn Hammond I'm more comfortable with a non-fiction choice, though possibly I can think up a fiction. They'd be what I'm into at the moment and individualistic... but that's what I'd like to see from other people. For instance Old Barb's sinister choices and whatever else people are engaged in.

To lead a discussion: I doubt this means more than to give your thoughts on the book (which I do at any chance I'm given) and if, cross fingers, a couple of other people join in, talk to them.

If our definitions loosened -- and I imagine we'd go a bit far afield if we started to do this -- much fiction that we're into might qualify. I like the idea of a range or an odd and motley lot of book-choosers and discussion-leaders.

Now I ponder I can easily think up a fiction, even if it's 'Beowulf' with special attention to the old/new religion themes.

message 7: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond Bursting with ideas since I had a cup of tea. I'd like to match a fic and non-fic, and have examples, that I'll pop into thread for offers and suggestions, when that's up.

I will let you know, Nell. *mutters to self. . .now all I have to do is figure out how to send PM's here. It can't be that difficult. . .*

Bryn Hammond Smile. To message: go to Nell's profile, under her photo there's a 'send message' option.

I have a busy year ahead. Happy to contribute where possible though.

Exactly!

Very happy with the responses so far, everyone - looking forward to your choices :)

Nell Grey Old Barbarossa, congratulations on having 666 books on your shelves...

Old-Barbarossa Mwa-ha-ha-ha!

What would the criteria be for fiction?
Bryn and I could make a reasonable combination. She could chose the non-fiction, and I could select fiction. :)

message 17: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond Go for it, Margaret. I just put a non-fic in the right thread, but I'm stumped for fiction, honestly. Unless I've already read it.

I read a fair amount of urban fantasy which a heavy witchcraft bias.

message 19: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Carson I would be most pleased to foist my sinister selections on others.

Margaret, sorry for not replying earlier, but the poll comments don't show up on the main discussion board and I missed the last few.

I'll check now to see if your fiction choice is up, and make the two official. The question is, shall we schedule them for June/July, leaving the current choice for April/May in place, or postpone

Stalking the Goddess and An Ogham Wood?

My own opinion, for what it's worth, is that June is a long time to wait to see if this idea has legs :)

Aaron, thanks, do post your sinister selection in the Choose a Book thread. It may be some time before it comes up to be read, but we'll get there.

Hi again Margaret, just wondered if you're making a fiction choice to go with Bryn's non-fiction?

I'm afraid this thread isn't very visible - I'll duplicate this post on the Choose a Book thread.

Missed your posts, Nell, sorry. <3

My fiction choice to go with Bryn's non fiction would be Hounded

message 25: by Nell (new)

Nell Grey Thanks for that Margaret. I'll schedule them to follow Stalking the Goddess and An Ogham Wood for June and July.
