I read both of the first two types about equally, and I also still read plenty of children's/middle grade books. My reading then, as now, was more genre/interest based. If I read say, 3 really good fantasy books, I wouldn't care at all that one was children's, one was YA and one adult.

This is a good question. I'm having trouble remembering. I think I attempted a lot of "adult books" because I was hungry for mature content. But, I remember being more impacted by books for my own age group ( like The Perks of Being a Wallflower)
