But of course, I always vote for the underdog hehe.
Louize, that's a good idea. This will only be for a 2-week read as discussed with Kwesi yesterday as the event will coincide with our Annual Christmas Party. Kwesi will be busy with his exams and he has to fly back home for the holidays.
In the US, the book clubs normally don't assign books in December and start of school year because members tend to be busy. This is also the reason why we thought of having a short easy (children's) book to read.
All:
Let us know if you have suggestions for the Christmas Party: motif, theme, gimmicks, awards, etc. Remember that Christmas Party venues are normally booked way in advance. This morning, my family had our meal (brunch) at Ersao QC Ave. Meron silang P1,000 per hour na consummable. The food is very cheap and simple. This is just walking distance (for the younger people like you) from MRT North EDSA station.
Then, we were talking last night about giving the awards and recognitions for the members who contributed to the successful 2012. What I am thinking is to estimate the total expenses for the whole party and then send an invite with the individual contribution (P300-500) so we can collect the amount when the member registers upon entering the party. This way, di mahirap mag-compute ng individual share later and we can also incorporate his/her contribution for expenses normally incurred in a Christmas Party like decors, prizes, awards, parlor games, etc. We can also have a nice gate prize like a token. We can also have the white elephant game (suggested by Tina before). Exchange gift is already a given. We can also have monito-monita starting F2F9 then 10 then 11 then revelation on the party itself.
I know I assigned this before but let me know if you have suggestions for the annual awards. I am thinking of the following:
* F2F Perfect Attendance Awardees for 2012.
- TFG members (moderators included) who have attended all F2Fs from January to December 2012
* F2F Discussion Moderator of the Year (Individual)
- to be decided by all the 12 F2F moderators on the day itself via secret ballot; criteria to be set and agreed later.
* GR-TFG Outstanding Contribution by a Member (Individual)
- will have mechanics later but the 3 moderators are excluded for this award. This will include the member's participation in F2F, anniversary, outreach, online discussion, etc.
* 2012 GR-TFG Book of the Year (just for the record)
- from the 12 books read during the year
- assures a slot in the GR-TFG 100 Favorite Books in 2013
* Book Buddies of the Year (Group Award)
- outstanding book buddy group in 2012. Criteria to be set later. If a reading buddy group includes one of the 3 group moderators, that moderator will be excluded from the judges of this award.
* Newbies of the Year (Male and Female)
- newbies who made the flashiest entries to the group. Selection will be done via secret ballot during the remaining F2Fs: F2F9 to 11. So, all newbies from F2F1 to F2F11, Virlanie, Anniversary, Readercon are eligible to win this award.
I think those are the 5 awards that I think are worth considering to make sure that we give due recognition for those who really worked hard for the very memorable 2012.
I am open for volunteers to head the Awards and Recognitions Committee. I am thinking of those members who are still to moderate an F2F (2013 and beyond). Mahirap kasi kung 2012 F2F moderators kasi malamang mano-nominate sya then member sya ng committee.

And I like the awards idea. Buti sabay sa F2F to so at least may function room na tayo. Haha di na tayo mag-squat kung saan saan :)

Here you go: https://www.facebook.com/groups/25639... :)

That's what I have tried mapping out in my message above. I think I have to transfer this to another thread so others can see.
I am open to heading this committee this year. I don't need any award haha.

Haha!

AY. Ngayon ko lang napansin. AT BAKIT NOMINATED ULIT ANG GRAVEYARD BOOK???

Dahil dito... Charlie and the Chocolate Factory na! :D

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory pa rin.

Nope. Kwesi said we just need 100 votes all in all. So kung maka-100 votes na tayo (which is very close na), yung winning book na dito sa poll yung magiging book natin. Gets ba? We have until August 30 to campaign!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Wawa naman o.

Guys, it's CHRISTMAS. We should eat chocolates and be happy instead! PLEASE VOTE CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY!!
Soupy logic =))

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

thanks nag join na ako sa group ;)

Race to 100 votes overall ba or per book? :o

Aaahhh akala ko overall! This closes on the 30th, right? GAME, CAMPAIGN! (kinareer ko na HAHA)
CHARLIE!!

Mag-Charlie na kayo! Di required ang attendance. Haha.

Kwesi, ang puso mo! Hahaha. :D

May puso ka pala... hahahaha joke lang!

Louize: we thought/discussed about it before during the October polls and it kind of opened a complicated can of worms. Haha. Could be done, but it might take extra effort. But we can't stop them from voting kasi the message gets sent to everyone who joined, mapa-lurker pa man o hindi. If we'd only filter those who were active/joined a book discussion, then we should've just stopped with the F2F voting, kasi it's almost (almost lang, but not quite) the same.
Personally, I don't want to make things complicated. Speaking as a mod, we can revisit this thing next month or so based on the turnout. :) I think this is the 6th month we've been doing it?
That being said: GO CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY! Next year na si Gaiman! Christmas is a time for happy books with Chocolates! :D

Tina: Sorry, hindi ko nasabi ng malinaw, kung ganun panalo pa rin ang Charlie. LOL! Baka naawa yung ibang voter ng Gaiman, lumipat. Joke lang! Haha.

Let's have a chocolate party!!!
It will also give me the chance to read all Roald Dahl's books in my tbr hehe. I'd like to be a Dahl completist!
Graveyard lost for the 2nd time. Natalo na yan ng Jellicoe. Then ngayon natalo ng Charlie. Nasaan ang Gaiman's legion of fans?
To the fans of Charlie Chan: Yep, yep, hurray!
Altogether now:
Should old aquaintance be forgot? And days of auld lang syne. hehe.
