I do this all the time, I have my own playlists for reading science fiction and fantasy, but the science fiction one also works with popular science books, but my rule would be no lyrics or I'll get distracted. I listen to a lot of video games and movies soundtracks, there have been many times in which the right song comes up for the epic battle or for the big emotional shake, it adds a lot to the experience.
Sometimes, sometimes not. A lot of times I make specific playlists for each book or comic I'm reading so I can get more into the story! I got the habit after deciding to listen to the Danger Days album while reading the comic series based upon the same album.
I listen to music a lot, especially when I'm reading or writing. I usually get easily distracted by things, but music just helps me to calm down and it reduces my stress. I listen to music while I read, while I do homework, while I write, while I exercise, while I'm just sitting around my house, and even while I sleep! Music just makes me feel more calm and at peace, it usually never distracts me.
When reading for pleasure, yes. When reading to study or write, sometimes cinema scores or classical music is helpful or inspiring.
i have this one playlist for all my instrumentals, but since some of them come from movie soundtracks, they're pretty distracting too. my mind would get dragged back to the scene the music was used instead of reading
Everything has its time and place for every purpose. I hope by reading means you are intended to learn something seriously, and not meant to read for time pass nor meant to impress your parents or friends, or show off. Studying itself requires so much concentration that listening to music or any noise will definitely cause lots of distraction.I have not heard anybody learning or studying better by listening to music. If you are listening to music then you are not studying for sure. Whether you are listening to the song which you donโt like, then it very likely to cause annoyance and divert your mind from studying. Or if you listen to your favourite song or the song you like, then it is obvious that you are going to hum with it or tap your feet.
Either you listen to Music or Study but do not do both at the same time. If you really want to do well in study then learn to do one thing at a time. Donโt try to do multi tasking any such serious task where your brain and concentration is highly involved. There is a good reason why speaking on phone while driving in banned.
Whether it is soft music or hard music it will have the same noise while reading, like the impact of little poison and much poison will have negative impact. Donโt finish up listening all the songs now, save them as you would have rest of your life to listen to music.
I like to read and listen to music separately, since I really love taking the time and listening to good music, music can be a story itself!
If I know the words to the song then I sing the song instead of read. If it's a song I don't the lyrics to, then yes. anyone else like that?

my two loves are music and books, but music will always win and i will get sidetracked by it, no matter how engrossing the book
Sometimes??? Like, if it's telling a story, like in Hamilton music, than yes. But I can handel music if It's in the backround and isn't super hyped up.
It's sorta weird. Music distracts me most times but I can read just fine with the TV on.
My usual go to is a 4 hour rain and thunder track which I absolutely love. It makes me feel totally unplugged from the world and it seems to always fit my mood no matter what Im reading.
Depends on the type of music for me. I can listen to instrumentals and music that has a slower rhythm in a different language but music in a language I understand or music that's too upbeat or fast is too distracting for me.
Me listening to instrumental music while reading: โthis is nice, it even helps me focusโMe listening to any other kind of music while reading โbye, book, you can just wait on the shelf while I dance to this song...โ
I listen to Lo-Fi music while reading, and it usually doesn't both me much. Any songs with lyrics though, I can't handle.
Charley wrote: "I listen to music so I can ignore everything else around me. Usually I tune out the music."Same. I get so into the book that like 4 songs will go by, and I don't remember hearing any of them
The only kind of music I can listen to while reading is classical. I play it very low so I can barely hear it, but know it is there.
Depends on some factors. The reading mood I'm in is one. Sometimes reading while it's quiet feels really good, and something I need music to be more concentrated. Also the kind of music depends on the book I'm reading. I like when it fits the book. So soundtracks of movies that fit the book genre. Classical when I'm reading a classic. I like to make the music part of what I'm reading.
Carol wrote: "The only kind of music I can listen to while reading is classical. I play it very low so I can barely hear it, but know it is there."I think thatโs a good idea. It adds to the ambiance without distracting you. Kind of like WEBTOONS that add quiet soundtracks to add to the story, without feeling overwhelming.
I don't mind having music on when reading, but I have to put it on when reading because I have to drown out the disgusting neighbours noise.
