Carro I just spotted this in my inbox - now realise the poll is over.
My tuppence worth - is it for a printed book or an eBook?
When it is small, as it first appears, then it is very dark and not attractive. When it is enlarged it is rather good.
If you are doing a printed book, remember to pay attention to the spine as well as the front cover - the spine is seen the most in bookshops.

Thanks, Carro!

It's an eBook.

We like the background, but don't think the shadow guy "sells" the book. Since it's the first book, chronologically, in a 5-book "saga", it needs to be as good as possible. Also, there is another series in the same "universe" (prior to the Sirian war). All of the other covers are superior to this one (personal opinion).

So, as you can see, this book is rather important. It's a great story with a so-so cover. We're toying with the idea of replacing the shadow guy with a "real" person -- a Resistance sniper perhaps.

Carro Well in terms of the sort of small images you see on line with eBooks, and indeed on Amazon I think it is a bit dark and indistinct at that size. The titles could do with being more obvious for a start on the small image. They are OK on the big image. I think it is the two part colouring of the title letters that makes it indistinct in small.

I liked the figure as it is. How prevalent is gun action in the book?
If I saw a cover with a gun clutching figure I'd categorise it firmly as an all action book and be less interested in it than with the current mystery figure.
If it is an all action book, then changing the figure is obviously a good idea. :)
Avoid one star reviews on Amazon by people who were expecting something different. :)

A military SF novel. The start of the Sirian war and our hero is caught up in the middle of it. Spoiled his whole vacation. Not much mystery. The reader pretty much knows what's going on most of the time (with a few exceptions).

Well-plotted and the writing is superb. It's actually the author's 3rd book in the saga, but chronologically the first (and best read first).
