I've got a kindle 2, ipad 2 and Samsung Galaxy 2 S. I prefer the phone over all 3 for the following reasons: Best form factor, I can read comfortably in the dark with white text on black background the brightness turned all the way down, quick and easy dictionary look ups and it's ALWAYS with me. Second choice for reading is probably kindle. iPad is just too bright for long stretches of reading.

I prefer my iPad. I didn't think I would but I never use my Kindle any longer. It just sits and gathers dust!

I am considering getting a phone, I am "cell phone~tarded", would you recommend this phone?

Love being able to read all on my iPhone as well. Very comfy and handy. Like the Kobo night reading adjustment too. All iPad 2 and iPhone 4!
I love my Kindle. It is the best thing I've bought in a long time. The E-ink technology they use is great. For me it tops the Ipad as a reading device.
I prefer reading on my Nook Color. But I read on my iPad anyway. The Nook just isn't capable enough to be the only thing I need to carry, and the iPad is.
I own a Kindle 3 and an Asus Transformer, and I only read on the tablet when my wife has my kindle. The LCD screens are worse than e-ink, so it's an easy one.
I own an iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone, and Kindle Touch. I've also tried the Sony Wifi Reader and Nook Color. My favorite reading device by far is the Kindle Touch for books. When I read magazines, I prefer the iPad.
I use my iPhone to read most things now on my kindle. Don't get me wrong, I live my kindle, but it's not something I have with me between working and classes. My iPhone is with me all the time. It's a 50/50 toss-up for me.
I love my kindle fire! I don't have an ipad and I don't really want one because my fire does everything I would use an ipad for.
I had the Kindle and enjoyed it, but with the iPad I'm able to download the kindle, nook and iBooks apps and read book that are available to any reader. Not every reader has the same books available for purchase.

So I get to buy where I want and have them all available in one library, for one reader.
iPad gotta love this thing.....I have boh apps for kindle and nook and I don't like buying e books from ther for some reason but I do want to get a nook or a kindle in the future.
IPad because:I can transfer my books straight from calibre to my ipad.
I don't need a light to read in bed
I can connect to my calibre library anywhere with ipad.
when I'm reading at night I use the night reading settings.
I use ibooks (not latest version)last two or three updates suck.
If I'm travelling and I need to go light I would take my Sony e reader.
BUT...people who use the ipad as a library / storage medium for their books need their heads tested. I only load a few books at a time.
I also read my newspapers on ipad...does take a little getting used to but once you are used to it it's fine.
I have 195 books on my iPad. Takes up 500MB of my 64GB storage. Not a big deal. I could put 5,000 books on there and it still wouldn't be a big deal. Just the time it would take me to get to half of what this thing will hold is probably enough that I'll have a 256GB iPad by then. I'd rather have all my books with me than have to decide which ones I want all the time.
I love my kindle because I can read it outside, it doesn't hurt my eyes, and it's compact enough to slip into my purse and take to work. Also I have a feeling if I read on an ipad, I'd get distracted and wouldn't get as much reading done. I like having a device that's JUST for reading.
I really enjoy the e-reader. It`s an Aluratek Libre, syncs with Kobo. But I always go back to my ipod when I want to read the stuff with a lot of color or at night time when I want to read with the lights off. I prefer the e-reader for it`s light weight and much longer battery life.
THE SONY READER IS THE WAY TO GO! STRICTLY FOR READING... WHO NEEDS ALL THAT OTHER CRAP ON A READER??? LOL
I love my Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus. As small as the Kindle Fire, but has both Nook, Ereader, and the Kindle app.
An interesting observation regarding iBook, Kindle, Koko, eBook. Why is it so hard to move books around in the bookshelves? Kindle wants me to delete or remove if I try to move! Scary... Only success I have moving read books to sequence is on iBook shelves!! iPad2 wins again! However, some sort of discrimination exists when I try to switch edition in current reading section on Goodreads with no offer of iBook store purchases once downloaded. They offer iBook on the compare prices but later not IMO in switch to this edition....makes tracking reading annoying.
For long reading sessions, I prefer my Kindle. It has replaced paper for pleasure reading. LOVE the Kindle battery, easy to read screen, minimal weight, and the buttons on both sides. It's ability to sync with my phone helps me out when I'm stuck somewhere with only the phone, and would like to pop in for a few pages. Although I have access to DH's iPad, I never read on it. Too bright, too heavy, too big to hold in one hand, and I can't remember to charge it every night. The fact that the Kindle does not browse the web or allow me to play Angry Birds or the Sims helps. :)Oh, and the case that has the built-in light is excellent. It draws power from the Kindle battery. So if/when I fall asleep reading, it shuts off automatically when the Kindle goes to sleep. That avoids waking up to dead book-light batteries every morning.
For reading only - Kindle. It's SO much lighter and easier with one hand/one button, to turn the page. I have an iPad also, and love it, but I turn to the Kindle for all the books!
Prefer my iPad for reading in the dark but the Kobo for all other purposes. I also prefer the interface of the iPad but really, shouldn't expect too much from a book!
I never use my Kindle any more since I can read and sync my kindle books with the app on my iPad and iPhone. I adjusted my brightness to less than 50% to avoid eye strain. I read on my iphone when I get stuck waiting somewhere, and then it syncs right back up with my iPad. Love my iPad Kindle app!
I see posts of people saying they love their Kindle Fire but to me that's more like the iPad and less like the other ereader devices.
I prefer my Kindle,Nook and Sony because it is much easier to scroll down with and it is smart and fastening to use i can check my messages my friends can even ask me is it a good thing to use iPad on good reads and i say try the Kindle the Nook or the Sony you might like what you see. And they try it they love it because they can get to their messages when they are at work they can bring it with them. Just like for my boyfriend the same thing happened for him he loves the Kindle that i got him for his birthday he reads his bibles there and even takes it to work with him he says he loves it everytime he gets home. And i am so happy to hear that
mostly it depends on the type of reading. a tablet (ipad or other) is very good if you're reading magazines or comics, wether black and white or full coloured. Still, to read a book, the weight and the eye strain are disuasive factors. I've tried it, but didn't like it. Also, a tablet being a multitask device means that opportunities for distraction aboud. So, for deep reading, notihing like a plain and simple ebook reader. The e-ink screen may not be flashy, but it's just text, ideas and mental concentration. Besides, an e-book battery usually lasts way more than that of a tablet... it's quite annoying to be reading and suddenly your devices shuts down for lack of power.
Kindle is better for the eyes, IMO. But in the night I need to place a snake light to read and is a "pain". IPad is fast, bright, clear...and is frying my eyes. Sadly, I can't put it down.
With both I love the privacy they offer...no people butting their opinion on the book I am reading, at the bus, pool, park...
My boyfriend got my a kindle last year for my birthday (YAY!) and then later that same year my dad decided to trump him by buying me an ipad (it's ok to hate me. I do too sometimes) I definitely prefer the kindle. It's EXACTLY like reading a real printed book (but better cos it's so thin and light and i can read with one hand, so I can eat my lunch and read in my break. I can't do that with my ipad. too heavy and i need to swipe). You can't imagine how clear and glare free and non distracting it is to read on it until comparing by trying to read on an Ipad. Having said that, it depends on your choice of reading material. I read fiction and non fiction, but if i wanted to entertain kids with animated story books or browse ebooks of art photographs, then obviously a color supporting ebook reader would win. Also, my kindle3 (not kindle fire) doesn't support non roman characters, as I understand it, so no ancient arabic poetry on kindle for me or if i suddenly learned hindi and wanted to buy ebooks in that, then i'd need something other than my kindle. One more factor affecting my answer: i work in front of PC's all day. NOT looking to star at another LCD in my downtime.
I love both but the kindle is ultimately a better screen for heavy reding. I like using the kindle app so it stays synced between both so I can use either!
It's more comfortable to read on iPad (bigger screen, better fonts, easier quote-taking process with gmail sync), but Kindle is buch lighter and smaller. So most of the time, when I'm somewhere outside, I read on Kindle.
