I agree to Lucy Comment
Thanks
I have a Kindle Fire and a Kobo Mini. The majority of my reading is done on the Kobo. More than 30 minutes reading on the Fire gives me blurry vision and burning eyes. I can read for hours on the Mini.
Michelle wrote: "I voted on accident. :( I don't have an iPad, but my husband has an Android tablet. I MUCH prefer reading on my Nook rather than his tablet."I did too, wasn't paying attention :-). I love my nook HD and sometimes read ebooks on my desktop. The nook HD is very light and the screen looks great. If it burns out some day I'll just buy a tablet and read my books with the nook app.
If I had an iPad mini, I'd have no resistance to reading on it in place of my Kindle. But our iPad is full sized and cumbersome in comparison to the Kindle. I usually only take the iPad when I travel, and I'm always happy to come home to my Kindle.
The Kindle Fire is great! I use it every day. One neat aspect I have found is that I can arrange it so that when I add a book on the Kindle it also appears on my computer Kindle file.
I've wished FOREVER for an iPad, but it never happened. I have one tablet and that's a kindle. I finally answered this poll because it wouldn't go away if I didn't. There should have been an option for "I don't own both", imho.
Cynthia wrote: "I just got a 7" Android tablet, and I'm becoming more and more attached to it."You should be able to run the nook and kindle apps on it as well as google books. I have the kindle app on my nook since it runs google play as well. I would compare them and see which one you like for reading.
much prefer the kindle. Gives more of a feel of reading a real book though if a real book was added to this poll that;s what i would have chosen.
definitely my Kindle Paperwhite! But I only read books and pictures matter little to me, so if you prefer articles or want the full effect of pictures in what you're reading, I'd say a tablet/iPad is better.
The latest Kindle Paper White 2013 Wi-Fi is a gem! It's very comfortable and you can read for long hours! :)
There are rumors of a new PaperWhite with real physical page turning buttons. If so, I will upgrade, if not, then I will not.
I don't mean to divert this thread but I'm wondering if anyone has any reflection on what a Nook user might do if, god forbid, B&N goes by the wayside. They have all my purchased books in the cloud and I have tons of epubs so doesn't that preclude buying a Kindle paper white, though I'm impressed by it in every other way?

Just don't go giving them away once they are DRM free. Meanwhile, save your own copies onto some non-connected memory location, like a thumb drive or external hard drive... just in case.
I just have the bare bones Kindle and I love it. If I want to play games, etc. I'll use my computer. I still love reading 'book' books so alternate between them and my Kindle.
if tis a graphic novel of course an ipad [as e-ink colour tech is generally rubbish expensive], otherwise my kindle paperwhite for trad reading
I prefer my kindle because of the back light issues and eye fatigue. I have the bare bones second generation kindle and it is my favorite to read off of.
I like e-ink better. But there are definitely some things that work better on tablets. (At least until color e-ink is nice and cheap)
the question should be asked as general purpose LCD tablet (ipad, fire, nexus, other android, etc) versus dedicated e-ink reader. The way the question is posed the results will be useless, unless this is meant to be a question about Apple products versus all other products.
I agree with you Rich, and this is the second poll that is not done correctly. You can always start a third one.
I have a Kindle Keyboard, it's a pretty old version but I love it for it's simplicity. It has no back light which I don't mind at all. I find the back lights to be too harsh on my eyes anyways like reading on a tablet.
The kindle paperwhite backlight is adjustable from very bright all the way down to off in 24 steps. I use mine around 20 in the daytime and 9 in bed at night.
I read on the Nook tablet for about three years and just switched to the Kindle paperwhite and LOVE it! It's so much more lightweight and gets no glare when in the sun. The Nook was good but when I tried to read on the beach, I couldn't due to the glare and it was much heavier than the Kindle. This was the original Nook tablet, I'm sure it's improved but I think the glare is still a problem.
Kindle restricts you to amazon. On my iPad I have the kindle app, the ibooks app and the Kobo app....spoilt for choice and it's a lot more colourful than my kindle
Currently I do all my reading on a tiny iPod touch 4th generation, and it's hard on the eyes. I should look into getting an eReader or an iPad soon.
Peter wrote: "Kindle restricts you to amazon. This means you can buy or get books at a lot of places other than Amazon. I have had Kindles since the first model and a Palm Pilot before that. When I got the Kindle, I loaded the book I had been reading on the palm and continued reading it on the Kindle. For many months I had more non Amazon books on my Kindle than I did Amazon books. Many of those were from Baen or Smashwords. I also read some from the out of copyright sites. I now have an iPad and a Kindle fire as well as an iPod Touch. I do the majority of my reading on the Kindle Paperwhite and have not found many books that I wanted that I could not read on one or another of my devices, but mostly on the Kindle.
I got nonglare screen protector for ipad, so it's easier to read. However, the ipad has a lot of distractions so I still prefer my kobo e reader. My preference is original reader print. The e reader is very portable and I can carry it in a pocket, wearing hospital scrubs at work, for breaks.
I like my kindle a lot better
I have a Kindle Fire Tablet and a Kindle Paperwhite. Fire for browsing, Paperwhite for reading hands down. I love my Paperwhite. The E-ink really makes for a better reading experience.

Well, I disagree to that comment. I just fun read out of books and I personally think that reading out of a book better. Than the Kindle Fire
