I've really taken to using PaperBackSwap. The past dozen or so books I've read have come from members of PBS.

message 202: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and i actually found out about it through the book community on YouTube.

message 203: by Charity (new)

Charity The last book I read was recommended to me by a girl in a bar when we were both drunk out of our minds. Turned out to be one of the best books I've ever read. Thank goodness for drunk girls.

What book?

Passionate Minds, by David Bodanis. It's a non-fiction about Voltaire and his mistress Emilie Du'Chatelet. Simply amazing.

Nice! Tell me what you think if you finish it!

message 208: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Most of the books I have been reading are found from Goodreads or because I have read one by a favorite author and look for more of the titles they have written that I haven't read.

message 209: by Geri (new)

Geri I like Lisa Jackson and found her "McCafferty" series, at my library ebooks site.

message 210: by DJ (new)

DJ Harris I chose the "Goodreads reviews, lists, book clubs, and newsletter" answer, but really it was won in a Goodreads Giveaway. That just seemed to be the closest answer that fit.

I am reading another one from a Goodreads Giveaway right now along with two not listed. I usually have three or four books going at a time so I don't get bored. I am new here so I really need to make time to update better and throw up more reviews and ratings.

Thanks for the poll.
This is my first.
*blush*

message 211: by Sydney (new)

Sydney found 'exit here' at a bookstore with my best friend

message 212: by Elizabeth (last edited May 07, 2013 10:07AM) (new)

Elizabeth Barter The last books I read were through book clubs. One was with goodreads.com and the other sponsored by my local library.

message 213: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter Bob wrote: "I've been working my way through Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus series slowly. Several of my good reading friends had been recommending him to me for years and I finally bit. My last read, Let It Ble..."

If you're enjoying Ian Rankin , you might also want to glance at Giles Blunt's' John Cardinal' series.

message 214: by Karla (new)

Karla Brandenburg It was a giveaway promotion

message 215: by Just_ann_now (new)

Just_ann_now "What Are You Reading Wednesday" posts have be really helpful! I've discovered lots of great books this way.

message 216: by yomama (new)

yomama It was a gift, from the sloth overlords.

message 217: by Philtrum (new)

Philtrum Jenny wrote: "I've been reading Lee Child's Jack Reacher serise lately.
I saw him on SkyArts The Book Show ,thought i'd see wht the fuss was about! ;D lol"

Watch out! I read The Killing Floor having seen it recomended somewhere. I was trapped! I read the next few one after the other. Then, realising there was actually a finite number of them, I started to pace myself!

Read all 17 over the course of a year. The quality dropped off a little over the last 3-4 books but they're still great fun.

I even quite enjoyed the movie.

Looking forward to #18 in September!

message 218: by cactus (new)

cactus Lately, I've been reading a bunch of public domain books (my 12 year old self would never read "old books"). There are thousands of free e-books from sites like Project Gutenberg, Manybooks, etc. so it's not hard to find something that catches my interest. I usually read YA or more contemporary novels, but reading stuff from 200+ years ago makes me feel like a college student who actually understands literature. LOL.

message 219: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter I listen to CBC radio,I love the Canada Reads contest, part of my reading goal is to read all five selected entries from this year's competition.I also seek out novels from our goodreads community. This is a great way to seek new reading material, because I've also managed to find a few new friends in the community.

message 220: by [deleted user] (new)

I just read Stranded by Scott Ayars. It was a good Sci-fi about space travel.I found it at a ComicCon via GR.

message 221: by Angie (new)

Angie I finding new authors and books to read through Goodreads. The last book I read was an advanced copy that I was selected on a giveaway as a first read!

message 222: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea I voted for "Goodreads reviews, lists, book clubs, and newsletter" because that was how I found the last new book I read but the actual last few books I read have been books I re-read as is the one I am currently reading.

message 223: by Saskia (new)

Saskia Thanks to Goodreads I have been introduced to so many new books and writers. Love it.

message 224: by Christina (new)

Christina Ferreira Mary Beth (bibliophyte) wrote: "The last book I read was required reading from one of my professors. It. was. terrible. :("

message 225: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Barter Goodreads and Harper Collins.

message 226: by Jeannette (new)

Jeannette Cordoba-Pinero 90% of the books that I own and have read has been because of Maggie, by a miracle i have taken a plunge and have some on my own! LOL

message 227: by Tori (new)

Tori I'll never read any of the books I find on goodreads/amazon/etc. because my awesome/frustrating friends have suggestions I "need to read NOW" =/ I've wasted hundreds.

message 228: by Max (new)

Max Terrible poll... fails to give options for school-reading or just the fact that the book may be well known as was the case with my last, War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. At the very least put an "other" option.

message 229: by Suzanna (new)

Suzanna Fonaryova Interesting poll :)

message 230: by Len (new)

Len I find the books I end up reading are somehow related through a natural progression of interest in either, subject, author and/or similar books I have read. To me it is an ever widening circle of interest which continually opens up some very enjoyable reads. Therefore I rarely buy a book based on a best seller list or book review. Occasionally I use a review if I want to consider a book I maybe interested in.

message 231: by Eddie (new)

Eddie Jong Until recently, I found all the books I read by browsing on Amazon.

Since joining Goodreads, that has changed ...

message 232: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Bakker The last book I read was a Game of Thrones. I found out about it because of the tv-series (obviously), but the blogs and the reviews about the books made me buy them!

message 233: by Nicci (new)

message 234: by Laura (new)

Laura My dad brought in from his trip to America. ^^

message 235: by Pocki (new)

Pocki None of the above. Latest book in a series that I know is ongoing, so I've just been waiting for it sinc ei finished the previous one, even if I didn't even know the title at first.

message 236: by Elaine (new)

Elaine You left out one possibility: I found out about my last book I started by reading the preview chapter at the end of a previous book by that author.

message 237: by [deleted user] (new)

A friend of mine at work borrowed me my last book

message 239: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl None of the above....I saw it at a used book sale.

message 240: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Most books I read, I learn about either from seeing them in used bookstores, buying them at used book sales, or they're mentioned in other books - either in the text of the book, or in the bibliography.

message 244: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha On the suggestion of my boyfriend I just finished Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore. It was a pleasant, amusing read -- quite a deal of humor that made me laugh in them. I couldn't put it down.

message 245: by Verna (new)

Verna I have found several of my recent reads through Bookbub, a couple have been outstanding, some quite good and others not so good.

message 246: by Andrea (last edited Dec 11, 2013 02:35PM) (new)

Andrea I saw the trailer of Divergent by Veronica Roth in the cinema, and decided to finally read the book, cause it's been on my list for ages ;)
